I am on a real tear, cleaning and throwing out etc. to get ready for new carpeting in the bedrooms. We have many stuffed animals from the 60s and 70s that our children left behind when they emptied our nest.
Aside from Steiff, I'm not sure what other labels I should be watching for. If I had a short list of 5 or 10 at most, I could do that; otherwise, I'm afraid I'm going to throw out or donate something that has value.

It's been my experience that stuffed animals are good only for garage sales. Went to an auction yesterday and they practically had to beg anybody to bid $1 on 4 trash sacks full of stuffed animals. On the other hand, if you save them for a garage sale you can price them at 50c to $1 (more or less depending on condition) and the kids shopping with their parents will beg them to let them buy one to take home.

I don't know much about stuffed animals either---but it seems to me that some of them could be worth a few dollars. Are any of them characters from TV shows??---have they've got tags to identify the manufacturer?? etc

after doing your research, and don't know what to do with the ones that won't sell well enough, you might try washing them and donating them to your local fire department for trauma bears.
for starts -- original care bears with tags and plastic parts intact do very well. pound puppies are ok. if they have the collars and maybe the little carriers, that's even better.
washed stuffed animals do less better than clean unwashed stuffed animals.
the elephant looking thing from the Michael Jackson Capt EO (sp) project with Disney will fetch a pretty penny or 2600, appx.
that's all my raggedly little brain can come up with right now.

Well, this is the second thank-you, paulswife, from me to you in 5 minutes. I have posted my question on the toy board, which I didn't know was there (!), and I appreciate your ideas, too. You are a biiiig help, lady. --Adele

you are welcome, Adele. I have the tendency to want to inflict my opinion on others. And so I do that as often as possible without trying to come across as a holier than thou type of person.
One of my favorite web sites is www.dictionary.com. Oh wait, that was the other thread.
ok, i keep forgetting how to post a url correctly. can someone inflict that upon me ONCE AGAIN!?!?!?!?

I sold a star wars ewok for $20. and a dressed up bear for $15. So some do sell, if they are clean and have tags. I have also seen groups of generic ones sell on ebay.

I don't know much about them but the grandkid wanted a giraffe for Christmas and I coulden't find a new one. The few that were on ebay sold for quite a bit. I bought one for around 30.00, a bargain compared to most. I don't know if it was Christmas or because there weren't a lot of girafrfes.

My very first Ebay sale was a 12" tall white Snuggles fabric softener brand teddy bear. Both the buyer and I thought it was a cute bear. It sold for just under $10.00. It did not turn out to be super collectible or anything, but it made the buyer happy and that is all that mattered really. If you have something sort of different, I would go for it, even if it is not a very expensive kind of collectible. But, that is a personal decision for you to make based on how you value your time.

I've had real good luck with stuffed Snoopys from the 60's or 70's. One I sold was a plush Snoopy that stood about 18" high, he had his original bomber jacket, shoes and goggles - he went for 76.00. Another wasn't exactly stuffed, he was an Astronaut Snoopy from 1968 and he went for 73.00.
My advice is to look up the ones you might think would be collectible on Ebay. Then take real good photographs, including the tag of the animal.

I have sold several on ebay. Most of what I had were disney chacters. I found Gund to sell well too regardless of the subject. Give them all a try you never know....

Do you have any Foxes, Wolves, Big Cats, or Skunks? Ponies are also good.
