I would appreciate anyone letting me know if it is possible to retrieve information on an auction that is no longer in eBay's database. I negged a buyer who never responded to my emails and never paid and now he is harassing me about it MONTHS later, demanding to know what the item was.
I can count the number of people on one hand that I have negged (over 500 auctions) and I only neg if I can't recoup my eBay listing and FV fees.
Anyway, for some reason I never printed out the auction. I do know the auction number but since it is no longer in the database I can't even remember what it was for.
Does he even deserve an answer? I don't have time to waste on something this old when it involves a deadbeat bidder.

What information are you looking for?
FYI what I do is save my EOA from eBay in my mailbox so when I want to retrieve the auction I just go to the mailbox. It is good for about 90 days -sometimes a few days more.
However if you use your "myeBay" you will find auctions for 30 days.
Your feedback forum you can also find auctions for 90 days if you haven't posted a feedback for the user.
If you have then you can go to vrane.com to find all the feedbacks you have left.
Anything other than 90 days (unless you stored the EOA in your mailbox or other means of keeping the person's user id) you won't find it with eBay.
The information on the EOA that I can see you might want is the description, user id, the user email, the auction title and number
Other than that Dotties says to ignore then I would ignore. It isn't worth it is it?

Since you have the number, I presume you've tried to look it up and found it isn't in the database.
You could write to [email protected] and give them the number and see if they can give you the title, and you could then forward their email to the person.
