I recently had an acquaintance ask if she could "hire" me to sell some collectibles for her. I think I could do this, but does anyone have ideas about acceptable commission and fees I should charge? When I used to sell in retail stores I think it was one third. Thanks for any input!!

I dont recommend selling for anyone for Under 45% of the sales + all fees includeing but not limited to listing fees FVF credit card payment fees and now auction manager fees as well as packageing and materals.
I also dont Recommend selling items for others you know will not sell or will not sell for a price that your percentage will be less then $20 after fees and costs.
I have been selling for a family member for 30% of the sale price +fees
Many of the winning bids are $9 or less by the time I package the items to ship there is no profits left.

i once checked into a local consignment shop here.. and if i remember correctly they took 10% of the sale..but there were also other charges that were to be paid as well such as rent fee and stuff like that.. but as far as doing "consignment auctions" as dman has already said.. you have the FVF fee and the listing fee which you could always pass those fees onto your friend

When I sold some things for a friend, I charged 30% PLUS listing fees and commissions. Fact is, with an on-line auction, there is more work than having it sit in a consignment store. It worked out great for both of us.
