anyone know how to stop people from printing an image off an ebay auction? is there a program that can block someone from stealing the jpeg?

There is probably some sort of watermark program that would work. Other than that, you could have a simple card that "Copyright breinhold" (or something to that effect) which you put in each image. If it occupies enough of the image area, most picture crooks move on.

thank you. i thought of the card idea and have seen other people use it but i think it could turn people off thinking if they buy it i still hold a copyright on the image and they may not want the item. the watermark sounds good.<P> i heard of a program that when someone tries to copy or print your item a window pops up that says "hey i wouldnt steal from you" and it cant be printed. i cant find this program but like the sound of it.
thank you for the watermark idea! i will look into it.

If you find it, post it here.

Honestly though, if a person REALLY wants the pix all they have to do is "view source" and get the addy of the picture, open in a new window and bam!

I think all other "no theft" code is java. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's all I've seen.

One thing I see (and try):
-photograph/scan with a unique item or background.
- put your id info in the picture.
- watermark it, even if all you have is a basic graphics program, type your info in uncroppable spots.
-duplicate shots to show "watermarked" areas, then watermark another part of the image. I know hassle, but tight shots help sell my items, and make it harder to crop.

Conventional wisdom is if they are only using your picture from your host, then you can pull it down, or make a copy and swap in something else.

Safeharbor? LOL

If the image itself has a watermark or other obstruction, the address won't help. The low res of electronic images deters most people.
I would think that "breinhold" alone would be enough.
