I have had several auctions where buyers ask me to ship to another address than what their verified address is with paypal. I myself have an account with my mother in law, she lives in front of me, and sometimes I ask that they ship to my address but I don't do this alot. The reason is, is that I find myself questioning the people that ask me the same thing.

What do most of you do in this situation?

Thanks!

I have no problem shipping a parcel whereever the buyer chooses -- usually because it's a gift.

In fact, I have twice in the last week had two different sellers on Abebooks send the book directly to a friend (one in Florida and the other in North Carolina) because they were gifts. No point being sent to me and then me having to resend them on.

When its just a money order or check involved it's no problem, but when it comes through paypal or billpoint, then I have to consider credit card fraud...or am I being paranoid??

I don't use PayPal, but again, if I am being asked to send it to ANOTHER PERSON, I have always done so with no problems.

However, I suppose if they ask you to send it to THEM, but at a different address than the billing, you might have reason to question it, especially considering if anything goes haywire PayPal may not honour the transaction.

Please read my post titled credit card fraud with billpoint and you will see why not to do this.

I have done it before but never again! Luckily I did get refunded the shipping cost and got the item back from the PO so I am not out anything. But what a hassle. Thanks to Billpoint being swift on handling credit card fraud..unlike the horror stories I have heard about paypal.

susanfromar,

I just finished purchasing 3 items & asked each seller to ship them to another address.

WHY? Because they are for a member of my family who is ebay bidding challenged, so I get to do all the bidding in the family. But there's no sense in having it shipped to me, then having to reship it.

There's not always a sinister motive in asking for it to be shipped somewhere else.

Of course, I always explain WHY I need it shipped somewhere else & give them my name/address in case they don't feel comfy doing so, but haven't had anyone refuse me yet, even those who've I've paid w/PP.

I've also had customer's buying for presents, for kids/parents in other states, even another country...it's no problem as far as I'm concerned.

In the rare occasion when I've heard from the "send to" person before the buyer, I've asked the official buyer contact me to confirm it. No problems so far as the email addresses match up.

I will sometimes ask for things to be sent to me care of my work address. There's no one at home during the day, and I'm nervous about packages being left on the porch. There's always someone at our small office to sign for deliveries. Never had anyone question this.

Having a merchant account, I'll tell you that if you ship to an address OTHER THAN the verfied billing address, and the cardholder initiates a chargeback, it will automatically be granted. So, you'll be out the money if they claim they never received it.

You won't be covered under paypal, or billpoint, either for that very reason.

That being said, I have, many times, sent items to a different address. I WILL call and speak to the cardholder if I feel it warrants a phone call. If it is a large ticket item, I'll only ship to the verified billing address to protect myself.

I have a funny story about this. A buyer

asked me to send a book to an inmate at a

prison. The title of the book was.....

A Time to Kill. I worried for a

couple of days about this but The book was

delivered with no problems.

Please Please! If a buyer asks you to do this with any payment service DON'T!!!

I got burnt for over $1200.00 sending an item to an address other than what they payment service sent me.

By doing this you are 100% LIABLE. Anything over a small amount is usually being done by a professional thief!

Cover your butt because nobody else will!

I have also had things shipped to my work address. They won't deliver packages to my apartment. They just leave the little delivery "pick it up at the post office" notice. By the time I get off work the post office is closed. I never have done this with any item over $100.00 though.

My credit card bills come to my PO box, so that's my verified address on PayPal. Since I sometimes have to stand in a long line to get a parcel, I usually ask the seller to send to my street address IF they are comfortable with that. Most are, but some do send to the PO box. If it's for a family member in another city, I check with the seller BEFORE paying by PayPal--and a couple of times I've ended up paying by cashier's check instead.

I sell a few items occasionally, and I would only ship to a verified PayPal address. If you have this situation often, perhaps the info that you'll only ship to verified addresses could be in your EOA.

If you pay by PayPal it gets mailed to your verified address you have with PayPal (no exceptions) I cover my butt..., no one else will!
(Oh I don't take PayPal payments from UNVERIFIED users, once again I am covering my butt)

If you pay with a check... and want the item shipped elsewhere... then your item get held until the check clears.

If you pay by money order or cash... I will ship the widget anywhere in the USA.

My auctions state... PayPal is accepted only from VERIFIED PayPal Members and item will only be shipped to your PayPal Verified Shipping Address.

I have heard too many horror stories... about people getting ripped off.

I also will not pay for an auction through PayPal unless the seller is Verified and is a Premiere or Business account holder.

There are people like me who signed up for paypal before they ask for that three number code on the back of your card. I was a verified member until I tried to change my address when I moved. Pay pal now wanted my card number again including that three number code, since they didn't use it when I signed up, their verification process was now rejecting it. Dumb me tried to present it many times even though it warned me it was going to cancel my card. I thought it was a glitch since I knew I was putting in the correct info. Now they said I must use a different card. Don't have one. So whenever I buy something it always says my address is not verified. Not every deal is crooked. Sometimes when you follow rules, you still get burned.
