Hi All! I "think" I got lucky today! Found a twin size bedspread with a cowboy on a jumping horse at a yard sale. The lady told me it had been on her sons bed 30 years ago and it's in great shape! So my question is...can I put VINTAGE in my Ebay auction title? How old does something have to be before it's considered vintage? It's almost as old as me...although, I don't think I want anyone calling me vintage yet!

Hi,
I'm not a 100% sure, I can't find the article I had saved but I believe 1979 and earlier may qualify. I'm sure someone will know for sure. Sounds great!!

there is no hard and fast rule about calling something 'vintage'. Something could be from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s or even 80s and be vintage, in my book. (Certain games, toys, and fashion styles are definitely 'vintage 80s' and some are in great demand among the INSANE youth!!! Smile...why anyone would want to replicate the AWFUL way I dressed in High School circa 1983 in leg warmers and Flashdance cut-up sweats is BEYOND me, but they do)Stuff prior to the 30s I refer to as antique, or flapper era, or early 1900s, or pre-war, etc. etc, whichever seems more appropriate. Your item will certainly qualify as vintage in my book. Retro cowboy-anything is popular, I hear (don't sell that type of thing myself so I don't know if it still is).
Vintage is a word like love, it's hard to pin down a definition and everyone has a different opinion!

Vintage is more about characteristics than age. If you look vintage up in the dictionary it talks about age/year in reference to wine usually. ie: common to a year/area with certain qualities "unique" to that time/area. It really has nothing to do with age!
If you see an item that is sooooo 50's, than that item is said to be vintage 50's.
Same about the 60's, 70's and technically 2001. If it is totally TODAY than it is vintage 2001!!!!
We have just "adopted" the word to mean "old/not so new". Plus "vintage" sounds more interesting than "this old thingy"!
