I just installed Internet Explorer 5.5. The browser will load but a little gray error box pops up with the following:
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:353b87ad.

Since my new HD went in GoBack has been causing my CPU nothing but grief. I've uninstalled & reinstalled it twice, and it still causes my CPU to thrash & churn.
Blanche feels that it could be a problem with Norton's [and she may very well be correct] but I don't have a copy of Norton's to reinstall.

I don't know much about it, but I believe it's possible to create a partition in your hard drive and somehow create the exact same effect as goback. Costs you nothing if you know how.
Anywya, back to topic at hand -- can anyone decipher the error? Oddly enough the browser works until I close the error box and then it crashes.

IE 5.5 is second only to Netscape 6 in lousy browser performance. It is very unstable and crashed so often that I had to uninstall it.
Somewhere about the time they issued 5.5, they offered users error reporting software to tell Micro$oft why their browser bombed.
The answer: 5.5 is trash.
I went back to 5.1 and suggest you do the same. It's quite good. There's no sense in using a browser that won't perform reliably regardless of any advantages it might offer.

Sorry to hear about your computer troubles. One of the good things about IE 5.5 is that it has a self healing feature.
1) Close your browser
2) Go to START - SETTINGS-CONTROL PANNEL-ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
3) Scroll through the list until you see see Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (it may also say & Internet tools)
4) Click it
5) Click the ADD/REMOVE button -- You are NOT removing it - honest
6) A box will pop up - select the second option REPAIR Internet Explorer
7) This should hopefully take care of your IE woes.
If not, please let me know and I can look up your page fault error in our database.

Thank you so much, Sid. I haven't tried that yet; I'll give it a shot in the morning and see if it does the job.

I downloaded Netscape 6 and it was a disaster. What a headache. I tried to delete it and I couldn't. When I thought I had deleted it, it came back again. I called my ISP and he couldn't help me only to say never use Netscape 6. Use Netscape 4.5. I then redid my computer back to the original. Live and learn...
