I am trying to purchase a book thru Half.com & since this is my 1st purchase I had to register my credit card info. Almost 24 hrs later, still in a "waiting for authorization" mode. According to half.com they are experiencing a problem with their 3rd party CC verifier & are "working to resolve the problem"....Anyone aware of this problem?...Anyone else in a holding pattern or am I alone here????....
As Always, Thanx....

The same thing happened to me over the weekend. I've made many purchases through half, and it has never taken very long to verify a credit card. I dunno what's going on.

Half.com is having a host of technical problems right now. I would avoid them unti they straighten them out. And I am a seller!
Problems are affecting more than credit card information. The recent spate of trouble began when they introduced some "enhancements". People were ordering things but the sellers weren't getting their notices. Right now, confirmations of sale that I send to them are not being processed or accepted.
Since they were purchased by ebay, there has been an increase in "features" and lots of changes for the sake of change, with a parallel decrease in reliability and service.

Thanx folks....It certainly is a shame for the sellers....Here I want to purchase a book, seller has it, but with the cc processing problems it can't be done...I guess I'll have to go on back to eBay to find it.....
Litlux, sounds like it's been "eBayized"!.....

I purchased a VHS movie on April 6, in the early AM. Stayed in "Waiting for Authorization" till the 10th at night, followed by an answer to my Email...The explanation is that Orders are NOT processed during the week-end...and the Seller has 2 business days in which to acknowledge this order.
On the 10th, I was told that my order will go Media Mail and the estimated time of arrival is as follows:
********************************************
Order To Ship By: 04/11/2001
Shipping Method: Media Mail
You will not receive a separate shipping notification email.
Orders shipped by Media Mail typically take 5 to 21 days
to arrive. In some instances, Media Mail shipments will take
as long as 30 days to arrive. Actual shipping times depend upon
shipping distance.
Estimated Date of Arrival: 04/19/2001 to 05/24/2001.
********************************************
I cannot believe that Media mail could take that long!
I HATE 1/2.com and will never, EVER buy there again. Too bad what I purchased is rarely available at prices I can afford, or even just plain available! which is the only reason I went there this one time.

Shoshananh----
Half.com is civilized enough to believe that some people may actually take the weekend off--and with the understanding that the post office may not be available over the weekend----that is why sellers have longer to process an order when you order close to the weekend---
Most media mail does not take 30 days---but some do---so the disclaimer is just to protect the seller

They should be civilized enough to explain all of this in the HELP center, which I thoroughly read prior to making my purchase, so new buyer will know ahead of time and be able to make a decision.
Thank you for the information on Media Mail...I have never either sent nor received anything through this means.

Well for future information----Half.com gives the seller 48 hours to confirm/ but they do not count the weekend as part of those hours. Once it is confirmed the seller has 24 hours to get it to the post office.
Because of these rules---some sellers may delay confirming if they are not going to the post office the next day or if the weekend is the next day---though if you do confirm the item on a Friday---Half.com gives you til Monday to mail it.
All the books I've ordered from Half.com have come quickly ---I've only had to ask for one refund--but that was because the seller used a Priority box and the Post office added on Postage Due (so I refused delivery)

Does anyone know how I can cancel this order?...I'd rather not wait around until half.com works out their problems....All I can find on the site & in their response to my email was how to shutdown my account...I need to cancel the purchase...Anyone???

Why don't you delete your CC info--that might do the trick.

I placed an order over the weekend and they wrote me back to say my Credit Card had been declined. Seeing as I use it several times every day, I knew they were having CC Processing problems...good to know others have seen this as well.
I just went and bought my movie somewhere else. My experiences with half have been okay, but often the price doesn't save me enough to justify dealing with people I don't know and can't meet and the wait for product to arrive.

You might want to try deleting and then reentering your credit card information. If it nixes the order, ok, and if it kicks it through the mill, that's not so bad
I have had virtually no problems with Half other than a slooow server. I have gotten all my books and have started to sell a couple. Most sellers respond and ship promptly. And I've had no trouble with Media Mail--most everything gets there in about five days.

And here I was, wondering what was wrong with my books, that I was suddenly selling none!
I edited my lot several days ago...there are kinks in the system. I'd click to edit one book in particular, another would keep coming up. I finially suspended that book, and relisted it with the updated info.
Also noticed, one very popular book I had just listed got put into a cart quickly...but the sale never finialized. I guess now I know why.
Has anyone noticed the books listed as "acceptable" seem to have dissapeared from the viewers page?

Here's an interesting twist!...I emailed half.com regarding how to cancel the order, just about the time I posted here last...They emailed me back the "canned" how to close your account instructions & then about 2 hours later the authorization was cleared & the book ordered...hmmmmm, I realize it's probably a coincidence, but I did find the timing a bit odd!
escandyo...the sellers are the ones I feel particularly bad for...folks are tryin' to buy their stuff, but can't get processed!

I ordered two books on half.com late Tuesday night (the 9th). I used a credit card that was already on file with them, got confirmations on them both, and lo-and-behold one of them was already in my mailbox on Thursday (media mail).
No problems here, but I guess I'll be crossing my fingers on the other one.

I went from selling 1-2 books every day or so, to NOTHING. Was wondering why until a friend told me about her problem in buying a book. She could never sign on at all. That solved the mystery for me.
Hope they get the problem fixed fast.....
