I've recently sold an excercise bike and even though I stated local pickup, of course I had a bidder win that wants it shipped! Since customer service is the name of the game, I looked into it...well, he had no idea that shipping would be over $200 to have it crated/shipped via a local outlet. Before I write him off and offer this to the next highest bidder that IS local, does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't want to pack it or disassemble it. It is a Schwinn Air-Dyne AD-3 and weighs around 100-125 pounds. I've contacted local freighters like Yellow Freight, etc. and they're around $200 also. Any thoughts? Thanks,

Boy, that's a tough one.
I recommend that you defer the shipping responsibilities to the buyer. Provide them with the information regarding the pickup location, weight and the amount of service effort you are willing to provide. Let the buyer figure out the rest, since the made the decision to purchase an item that was only being offered for local purchase.

Thanks CB, that's basically what I've done. In the auction description I even stated that buyer is responsible for making and paying for other shipping arrangements...and he asks in his reply email what UPS shipping charges would be! Guess he didn't finish reading my description...

See if some poor college kids who have a van or pickup can ship it there. For $100 and two to four hours time, two college kids can make about $40 each and it will cover $20 for gas. Just wait about 2 weeks and semesters will be over.
Honestly I would love to see somebody walk in to UPS and try to ship it...
