I have a new competitor on ebay who signed up in March. It's not something I'd normally do but I contacted ebay about the seller. At the time they offered choice auctions and had a link to their website that had the ebay power seller logo on it. They had a feedback rating of 60 with 2 negatives and 2 neutrals.
I worked hard for my powerseller status and it looked like they just took one. The response I received from ebay shocked me I wish I had kept it, I didn't.
The email from ebay said that it looked like they were in a new catagory of powersellers who were given the powerseller status because they "expected" to sell a huge amount on ebay.
I don't think that's fair for those of us "smaller" sellers to have to work so hard and have a 99% positive feedback rating to reach the powerseller status (not that it's worth much) when a big company can START on ebay as a powerseller.

You're right! That is not fair.
Ebay also says that you can't have special contests on your auctions and yet the history channel auctions have a link to win free stuff. I pointed this out to ebay and was told that they basically have special rights. Just more examples that ebay can do whatever they want to do.

Ebay's Powerseller status was a farce from the beginning. I'm a Powerseller too. But, you did the work, and ebay just never followed through with anything other than that little logo. Whooppeeeee.... no special offers or much to speak of when one considers the work you put into it. Almost anyone with a good standing can be a Powerseller. Doesn't mean much anymore. Don't fret over it. It's another grasp of the straw by ebay while sinking in quicksand.

I'm not worried about them being on ebay. I sell way more of this paticular product than they do. They charge $7.95 on something that costs $3.50 to ship priority. They start their auctions at $0.01 with a high reserve. They haven't sold much. They've been listing 2000+ items every week since early March and still have a feedback rating of less that 100. What made me mad is that ebay gave them powerseller status as a beginer on ebay just because they "expected" to sell in huge numbers, that obviously hasn't hapened.

That's why you should go to the press with your story.

eBay HATES negative publicity and the press LOVES to catch them doing things like that.

I read recently in an article about the Poatal Service selling on eBay and when the USPS was asked about their fees, they said the deal with eBay was confidential.

We brought the buyers in and eBay is giving preference to these big guys.

I think it stinks for ebay to give preference to a big company just because they "expect" to sell more than us "small" sellers.
I don't have a problem with this one, I sell 10 to their 1 in my category but why should they get special treatment just because they want to sell lots of inventory on ebay, I want to sell lots too!

Large sellers are more cost efficient for eBay, and eBay has begun to tailor the site and fee structure for them.

We are actually subsidizing the big sellers being brought in.
