Ok, I've been on a selling break for a while now & maybe this is a new eBay feature, that I'm not aware of, BUT....I'm lookin' thru listings on a title search, and I came across and item which (for example, NOT the real auction info) reads "Blue Widget - done by Joe Blow" in the auction title listings....Now, once I goto the auction description, the title there is "Blue Widget Really Cool Gotta See"....HUH?.....I know it's 4:30am & I couldn't sleep, so I am a bit groggy, BUT I checked this like 10 times, and I do believe that is actually what I'm seeing....Anyone know what this is about????....

Rancher, the seller probably just revised the title and eBay has not done an update to "reindex" (or whatever) the listing yet. If you click on the link to see the revisions by the seller, you'll probably see that the title was revised. Check the auction tomorrow, and you'll probably see the "new" title when you do your search.

Thanx mcbrunnhilde!...I don't think I would have caught that even if I WAS awake! LOL!...I checked it out and sure enough seller did revise the title....Sadly enough that revision was made on 4/25 and STILL is not re-indexed...
I couldn't figure that out for the longest time, but realized it was the software some people were using.
Some auction listing software lets you put in your description title, (which you see listed), then another title, which you only see when you go to their page).

I think I've read in other posts that if you revise something after the initial "indexing" of your auction, there's a chance that it won't ever get done correctly. IMO I just think it's spotty. I e-mailed a seller once because their title was WAY wrong, and they revised it. The next day, the search had the corrected title. A few days later, the search showed the old title again in the search, but clicking on the auction brought up the new title.
It would be interesting to know if a word search for the "new" title of the auction you reference would bring up the "old" title in your search list (in other words, eBay might find the auction by the new words in the database and put it on your list, but the old title for some reason hangs on).

The place that I launch my auctions from since I left AW gives you that additional "title" line on the top of your template. It's nice because you can use as many characters as you want to make the title above the pics as specific as you want.

Hey Krafty, how ya doin?....(Hope you don't mind my "nicknaming" your ID, it's a habit I have in RL!)..... It's very interesting to learn that there is s/w out there doin' the trick!!
Sharkbaby...Can I ask, "If you are using essentially two titles, on which one does eBay index?".....& "Is this place from which you launch your auctions eBay or a non-affliated site?" (I realize that you cannot post the name, but I would like to know if it's eBay or not)...Thanx
Mcbrunnhilde...unfortunately the auction ended today (during my nap time!), so I can't run all the "tests" you brought up....I did find the following tho'...My first search (where I discovered this) was a "Search Title & Desc" search...When I realized that there actually were two titles, I reran the search on the title "inside" the auction & DID get the auction, with the NEW title (again "Search Title & Desc" the keywords in the "inside" title were NOT in the original title & we NOT part of the general auction description....NOW that the auction has ended, the only search that will find it, is a "Search Title" with the "inside" title...Using the old/outside title will NOT find the item....Next time I run into the same scenario, I will be sure to try every combination I can think of to test the results....&...I WILL be sure to be careful when writing my titles, so that I DO NOT have to revise....
I find the s/w option of having two titles, especially if these are non-eBay sites very interesting. I can see where that could have a negative impact on eBay searches, in that the database would be trying to store the same item # with two different titles....hmmmm
I make mine up from a place that hosts pics & has auction services.
To be honest, though, much of that computer mumbo jumbo eludes my logical mind! So I don't know about the search thing, but I think the second title space above the pics is just part of the description and the title search just goes by the "ebay" title at the very top of the ebay auction page. That's just my opinion.
I really love where I'm at now! But I won't talk about it and jeopardize my posting privileges or this thread.
