I ordered a widget and paid via billpoint. As recent as yesterday, "my ebay" showed that I had paid via billpoint. My item arrived smashed due to inadequate packing. Seller says sorry you didn't buy insurance. Believe me, even if I had, the PO wouldn't pay due to the horrible lack of packing materials for this fragile item.

I nicely asked if he would like to refund or should I let my credit card do a charge back.

Now, all references to billpoint have disappeared from his auctions. Even the closed ones, and I'm looking at a printout of an old "my ebay" page and it clearly shows "paid" in the billpoint column. Now its blank in the billpoint column.

Did this seller deregister from billpoint? Is that why there is no reference to "pay now", even on the closed auctions? If the seller did deregister does that impact my ability to challenge this charge on my credit card?

Not my name on ebay.

You can still do a chargeback on your credit card. It should not make a difference as to whether or not he is registered with Billpoint anymore.

You should have bought insurance. I think it's unethical to expect the seller to refund payment because you didn't insure the purchase.

I think it's unethical to expect that a buyer should purchase insurance to protect against "inadequate packing". Insurance is for lost items, or properly packed items damaged in transit.

Hope you get your money back ValleyGirl.

If the clerk at the window accepts the package and insures it the Post Office has got to make payment. If the clerk asks a few questions and gets the wrong response they won't insure it and will suggest proper packaging. If the seller shipped anyway then it would be the sellers responsibility. You should have unsured the package.

This item was wrapped in black trashbags and a few paper towels. It was placed in the box upside down in the box with no packing between the bottom of the box and the item. Of course, all the damage occurred to the item where it touched the bottom of the box.

I live in a larger (for this area) town with long lines and lousy CS at my P.O. However, I work in the next town, small PO, great people and no lines. My favorite clerk there said there is no way insurance would pay because of the manner of packing.
