I need to get this exchange rate down. I just visited exchangerate.com and the current rate of exchange is $1.54.

Does that mean that $1.54 in Canadian dollars = $1.00 in US dollars? In other words, a hotel rate quoted in Canadian dollars as $154 per night would be the same as $100 per night in US dollars?

Thanks for your help.

There might be some slight variation depending upon how you plan to pay something.

If using a credit card, call them up first. Some have a handling fee for the exchange conversion.

Also, there is always a difference between what you see and what is the actual rate you are exchanging at. If a large sum of money, shop around.

And, you will pay more Canadian to covert to American then you'll get when you convert the American back to Canadian

Like buying a new car ... pay $40K, drive it around the block, and then sell it back to the dealer for $35K.
