I've noticed there are competing sellers using my item photographs and descriptions almost word for word. Is there anything I can about it (other than asking them to stop)? Does it really matter?

If it's obvious, you can turn them in to eBay and see if they'll do anything about it.
If you put your user name on your photos before you save them (this can be done in any photo-editing software that has an "add type" function), then anyone stealing your photos will be displaying them with YOUR user name on them!

I do the same thing exept I use my web address on many of my photos. I don't think ebay will do anything about it though. There will always be competition and if they are the kind that must still your ideas then you don't have much to worry about!

Yes, it does matter, and in most cases eBay will do something.
Write to the seller requesting them to remove your pictures. Make sure you send a carbon-copy to yourself so you can forward it along to Safe Harbor.
If the person doesn't stop using your info they're in jeopardy of being suspended.

if they're linking to your photos directly, replace the regular pictures with really disgusting pornographic pics with the same name as your original files and watch Ebay cancel the 'pervert's' auctions toot suite....

I had the same thing happen to me the other person copied pictures text ect. I emailed him and and got a sarcastic reply , Ebay did send him a warning but by this time his auction had already ended.
You can register on ebay as a vero member and then you can have his auction ended instantly .
go to the site map function on ebay and you can find vero there

I sent Ebay a message with two examples of auctions that had been copied. We'll see how they respond. I also contacted the developer of my photo editing software to see of they embed the serial number in the image. They embed their copyright notice so I thought it was worth asking if they embedded the serial number. Thanks to all that responded. As suggested, I'm going to start placing copyright text in the images.

Don't mess around. Join VeRO. Then you can blast their auctions with just one email.

Twinsoft,
Forgot to mention I'm doing that too. I figured I'd get several balls rolling at once. I've also been examining their auctions for any other irregularities I can find. I don't really appreciate lazy bums like that profiting from my time and effort.

I'd like to thank everyone who offered suggestions. I signed up for Vero and squashed the offending auctions and also added copyright messages to all my images. From now on I'm going to pay closer attention to my competitors auctions.

Can some please tell me how to copywrite my photos? Or tell me where I can read how to do this? Thanks
