I just heard from a reliable source that ebaY is considerding banning one of these two things.

Words or pictures.

They are not sure which to do first but there is a good chance that down the road it will be both.

By doing this it takes care of linking to other sites and emailing people directly.

Plus without pictures you can no longer show
a link to your web site with a jpeg.

This should kill all the off site ebaY sales.

I wonder if it will make a difference in other areas as well.

I heard that too and then they're going to follow with all items selling for under $50 unless you can sell 100 of them at once!

Love that British humor!

I hope they start with words. That will certainly take care of the spelling and mis-use problems that are so prevalent these days!

Imabrit: You are right on the money, as usual. However, I think it will be BOTH words and pictures at the same time, as that is really the only effective way to permanently kill all off-site sales for good!

Dottie: Oh ye of little faith crawl on your knees to Walmart to make atonement for your blasphemous pronouncements on this board. Imabrit is a Brit you know, and Brits KNOW, if you know what I mean.

Deco100: That's all items under $500.00 not $50.00. You need to get your glasses checked dear!

eBay is moving right along with these major improvements to the site, so it is just a matter of "when" not "if" these new bans are implemented.

Thanks for the heads-up Imabrit ol' chappie!

Edited to add: Sharkbabycakes: You pushed ahead of me in the 'queue' dear. Please mind your manners from now on!

According to inside sources the ONLY words that will be allowed are.....

Pot Luck

Grab Bag

Good Luck

(however, use of both Pot Luck & Grab Bag in the same description will be considered keyword spamming)

It's about time they did something about those frivolous little auctions!

Give me those over $500 auctions any day!

All in all, it would be easier if ebay will say what IS allowed instead of what is not.

(of course, without the ebay volunteer police force anything can get by......)

Shhhhhhhhhhh........quiet!

I just heard from a reliable source that ebaY is considerding banning one of these two things.

Words or pictures.

I heard different. It won't be as drastic.
Only the letters e and o will be banned. This will prevent anyone from writing .com, .org and .net urls in their listings.

Update: They are now considering adding the letter w to the banned list for obvious reasons. The letter z to stop nazi listings and the letter k. It's getting worse all the time.

Wow looks like we are having fun with this ones.
Here another rumour banning all items made
between 1 million BC and 2001.

That should take care of all the Nazi, fake items etc on ebaY.

Well go to go off to a home school convention in Orlando.

Thank goodness we only sell stuff that has not yet been made! (and dirt)
(we have never had any words or photos in our auctions anyway so the other stuff will not bother us)

Looks like we're good to go!

I heard ebay will be banning the words,

"SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS"

This is so you don't actually go to another auction site and bid.

LOL! It's not going to matter what words they ban. I just went to do a listing and they changed the sellers page on me! Pretty soon you're going to need an hour and a doctorate degree to get thru it!

The next step is, eBay is going to change their name & it will be only disclosed to power sellers. Sellers listing 100 or more auctions a week will be considered as possible recipients of the new name if eBay approves their inventory. The rest will have to move out & move on. This new name will be one of the best kept secrets on the internet.

uglimouse,

when i first came to ebay and was searching for vintage women's shoes, i noticed a listing for someone's 'stinky' shoes. the description went on and on about just how stinky they were, and i thought it was a joke. then i saw more listings like it, and the high multi-bidder ending prices, and

then

i

realized.

ew!

imabrit,

this is a stroke of sheer genius on ebay's part. just think of it: no more typos, misleading descriptions, dark/blurry photos, no more need for vero; no more shooting, editing, or writing necessary on the part of the seller; saves auction upload time; pages load quickly. GREAT idea

it might make a difference in sales, but you can't have everything.

I heard ebay is going to ban any items with shipping charges. This will help to pay for Meg's Christmas bonus since ebay can now expect more final value fees from the higher ending prices as sellers need higher start bids to cover the shipping.

I also understand ebay is going to start a new service. For a small annual fee of 50% of your gross, they will supply a team of lawyers to help you keep up with the ongoing changes at ebay. After all - you don't want one of your auctions to be in violation of ebay's TOS.

Well, at least without words or pictures I will be able to sell my Crocodile and leopard Chanel-like handbag with the nazi insignia... I was worried I might never be able to sell it...

BAD NEWS!!!!

Ebay has decided to allow ONE WORD in listings:

L@@K!!!!

But... it is limited to no more than 12 K's at the end of the word.

They have also banned exclamation points in the title and titles in all caps...

Exclamation points after L@@K are still allowed (max of 10).

Opening bids of less than 50$ are also banned.
