Hello. I have launched my web site but now I know I need to get it listed with the search engines. Is their a way to do this inexpensively or do you just need to bite the bullet and pay 90.00 a month for regular submissions. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
It's been years since I've done this, but the last time I listed with MetaCrawler and got to list with about 50 search engines for free. May want to try them out.

MetaCrawler is good. I think one of the best programs out there is SubmitWolf by Trellian Software. Not sure if the service is free or not, but check it out at: http://www.trellian.com/swolf/

The search engine game is a new breed of cat these days. It is nothing like it was a year ago or even 6 months ago. There are things you don't even see on a page, like META Tags, META descriptions. You must consider things such as word densities, search BOTS and I'm told if you do certain things wrong the big sites won't even list your site at all. For instance people used to type key search words hundreds, even thousnds of times and color them the same as the background, a BIG no-no these days. It's all way more stuff than I wanted to become expert in so I have enlisted an expert for my own site (www.lps2cd.com). I guess the proof will be in the pudding in the next 1-3 months. There are lots of sites that will do it for you and yes, at a price. You can try to do it yourself. One very good resource can be found at:
