it was because the eBay powers that be would not let you post about things they did not like.

Now AW is acting just like eBay did back then.

If I were AW I would try to catch a lesson from that experience. Or have they just become so large that, like eBay, they can get away with whatever they want?

I may catch it for saying this but there are lots of places to post and learn besides eBay and AW.

I used to spend my time on eBay's Q&A board but moved to AuctionWatch when they became too oppressive about their moderation.

Now I am wondering if perhaps I should start looking around to see where people who want an honest open discussion of all the auctions sites are posting now.

I think it is sad that AW is now dumping on people who are really enthusiastic about sellyouritem.com.

Of course, I understand why they feel this way, it must cost them a lot of money just to keep up with all eBay's changes, without trying to do a new site.

I haven't seen where AW has been dumping on those who are enthusiastic about sellyouritem...could you point to some examples? I'm interested in seeing what is happening.

Amy

Go read Dottie's posts and the moderator's posts here [http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=379287]

I hope I made a link. LOL I have an awful time with UBB.

AW warned Dottie not to promote SYI. That's the only thing I've seen even remotely resembling "dumping".

I've seen AW "dump"...don't think this qualifies...

That little tap on the wrist was the dumping?

WAIT till you see the REAL dumping!

Perhaps "dump" was a poor choice.

My point is, that when AW first started this would not have happened, and those of us who have been around for a while, know it.

I hafta say that I agree with TOKE on this one... AW was perfectly within their TOS to use a friendly moderation in order to keep posts about ANY auction site from becoming TOO much like an advertisement.

And as I even stated in that thread AFTER the reminder, NOBODY told me that we could not mention other auctions sites... just to refrain from the "promotional" sounding posts.

It was FAIR.

However, I do understand the spirit of THIS thread... and agree that AW has become LESS open for discussion of ALL aspects of trading online... therefore I have begun to visit OTHER auction discussion sites more frequently... and with a sharing of MORE indepth information.

AW is still good for the "surface chat" and for watching a "dog fight" now and then though! LOL

I remember when...this place used to be so lighthearted and funny. Can't remember who it was but they penciled a picture of themselves with their computer and put it up for auction on ebay and we could all go check it out and bid if we wanted.

I retract the part about "dumping".

I still don't like where I see AW headed with their moderation.

Yes, AW has become very self-protective, since large money became involved. I understand why they're doing it...I just think limiting ANY auction related discussion is counter-productive to their site. (Discounting SPAM, of course.) I'm assuming they actually WANT a vigorous chat board, for the hits.

They've improved since the initial Womderama that occured during the announcement period about their change from "free" to "costly" auction tools, I admit. Boy, that was bad.

Why can't this happen anymore?

Cause the person who did it was banned from AW for life?

Was this person the only one capable of posting fun and interesting topics? (This is rhetorical - I know the answer.)

My point is, if you're sad about a board not being fun anymore, then do something to bring the fun back to it. (Not "you" specifically, but "you" meaning anyone who thinks that something is missing.)
