Second time someone has emailed me and told me they were really annoyed with my 'no right click' script I have in my auctions.
I do know there a couple different ways to still steal pics, just hoping (and so far its worked) that the person isn't that smart
So I get these emails, on the verge of angry emails, that they use right click to bookmark an auction, or to copy the auction number.
I always use the old fashioned highlight, then control-c.
Damn, should I take it out of my auctions.
The last person was someone that won the auction, was paying with paypal, and said it was really bothersome, when he went to copy the number the 'No right click' message came up.
And then another person told me, its probably keeping people away from my auctions, though I haven't noticed it.
it wasn't you then, because I use a plain white background
I do the right click for a specific reason.
Tried the text in pic, and since I did not want to put text right across the picture, this one person, cropped it out! I tried talking to her, helping her IN PERSON, nope, kept doing it, so I resorted to the java thing. I know there a couple ways to take them, but I am hoping she won't figure it out, plus I hope she doesn't have the same things anymore either

lol I love that message you give when you right click.
The one I emailed just had it saying "hello".
that is a cool mailbox ya got there I was looking at one like that at goodwill other day when it was closing so I came back next day and it was gone. sigh

I didn't know you could do this! What happens when someone right-clicks on the image? Do they get an error message or a verbal spanking or what?
I don't use right-click to bookmark stuff (I too just use the favorites thing) or to steal images for my own auctions but for a visual wishlist. My partner & I collect diecast models - we have dozens of disks with hundreds of images of rare/unusual models that we missed in adding to our collection. The closest we'll ever get to some of them.
I can understand why you would want to protect your business interests but would you have an objection to our activities? If we asked, would you grant permission?

If someone takes my picture, the item he's selling better look like the picture.
If not, it's his problem, not mine.

capotasto-kinda long story. She's my neighbor! And she got into this, when she was out of work, bought digital camera and all, and just could not get a good picture (I guess?) and so went and took my picture, AND on top of that, she put in description, "item looks better than picture"
nice huh?
gotta go
ack

That RC thingie doesn't really affect we Mac users out there...
If I want to save a picture and the pop-up menu doesn't appear (the Mac version of no right click), I just drag-and-drop it into the folder I want it to go to...
Same works for text like auction numbers...
When I drag the image, I can actually see a smaller version of the image moving with my cursor....

I can see how it might be annoying to someone who wants the pic for their records. I almost always d/l the pic when I bid. This way, if the seller changes the pic during the auction, or deletes it right after the auction ends, I still have a copy for my records. All we have to go on in this venue is the picture and the description - I consider the picture as part of my receipt.
On the other hand, if I wanted to bid on your item, and couldn't get the pic to d/l, I'd probably just email you first, explain my position, and ask you to email me a copy.

Actually, I use right-click fairly often... Nope, I'm not a picture thief (honest!) . I use right-clicking to show me the picture or link in a new window in case the window I'm currently in is particularly slow loading and I don't want to wait for it to reload when I come back to it.
Not that anyone's auctions here are particularly slow loading...
Besides, if I wanted to copy the picture, I could just disable JavaScript (or go home and do it on my Mac...).

I would remove the "no right click" from your auctions. If people really want the pics they can just use the view source command and get the url. No right click script is useless and annoying.

I don't need to steal pictures from peoples auctions, I have a nice camera.
BUT, If I right clicked to copy the url, and it didn't work, it would be annoying... But it wouldn't keep me from getting the URL. (Or stealing the pic, if that was what I wanted to do.... And I wouldn't need a MAC to do it, either )
High bidders "copying" the picture from the auction is common, and understandable. And not all bidders are as "computer savvy" as some of us are.

Yes, and I'm forever changing the wallpaper on my computer. A lot of times if I find an auction item I'm excited about, I'll save it as my wallpaper so it's up in my face as a reminder to snipe!

Thing is, its easier than any view source, or even a Mac
all you have to do is double click the actual picture, and you get it in another page, my own url and all. From there you can right click and save, try it
now I did it huh?
And like I said before. This seller was a 'freind' and we helped her, helped her figure out her camera, she just didn't want to take them, when she did, I don't know what she was doing, but they were.... bad
I didn't mind the first few times, but when I saw her description saying either 'Item looks better than picture' or 'My picture doesn't do this justice' bs, I then started putting text in. She called me up and asked me why I was doing that, I told her. So, since I didn't want text across the picture, I put it right above, or right below. She then CROPPED it out. So I then decided the hell with it, and put the no right click in.
People say imatation is a form of flattery. Well I don't need it, and what she said in her descriptions, that it wasn't EVEN A GOOD picture, forget it.
I now, do not sell the same things, as I've been checking her out, so its probably best I do take it out.
