I sometimes get the urge to put background images in my auctions. Not busy (in my mind) or large ones. Have any of you gotten feedback or have any experience negatvely/postively with these? My backgrounds are 6 or 7k in size.

I find them to be a distraction I am a proponent of the "clean " ad describe the item well..Good thought out pictures and thats it.
Keep in mind there are peaple with slow dial up connections older computers lack of ram ect anything that slows your page load works against you.
Bottom line is the background going to make folks more likley to bid ? I don't see how. Could the background cause someone to hit the back button if the page is slow in loading ? Yes.

I've used backgrounds in the past & they haven't slowed my loading time by more than a second or two.
But if you have problem w/your hosting ISP, then you can hang up your entire auction when the background doesn't load. It's bad enough if the picture won't load but if you can't get the background up...it can cause a nasty delay & people will hit the back button in a heartbeat.
