I have always closed mine at night.......sometimes late at night.......but I am wondering how auctions that close during the day do.
As far as the days of the weeks go ~ I like Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday ~ what do you like?

We have always closed our auctions from around 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and usually have a good outcome. We've slowed down lately, but when we do put auctions on, they do pretty well!

Sorry, forgot to give you days of the week! We usually end auctions on Wednesday or Thursday but I really don't think it matters. A family member used to "power sell" on e-bay and didn't really have a "special day" that sold better than others!

It's obvious that a lot of people bid on my auctions from work (naughty, naughty), so I try to end several of them in the early afternoon M-F. The rest I have ending on Friday or Sat. nights or Sunday afternoons--because that's when I'M off work and can respond to emails, send WBN's, etc. You have to end auctions when it's convenient for YOU--because if you have the right item--it will get bids, esp. with proxy bidding on Ebay.

i've tried sundays, mondays, wednesdays and thursdays. don't list on saturdays because i figure most people i'm most likely to be selling to will be out doing things during the day, and possibly out saturday nights. don't list friday during the day because i figure people are busy thinking about the weekend, not ebay; friday nights is the same reason as saturday nights. i usually list either in early afternoon or early evening.

If I'm the bidder and really DESIRE an item, I either make a proxy bid "that can't be beat", or I keep my eye on the item and MAKE SURE I'm near a PC when it closes. If I want it bad enough, it doesn't matter WHEN it closes--I'll either have that high proxy bid on it or, believe me, I'll be following it closely. So I don't agree that Friday nights and Saturdays are out because people are out of their homes. Maybe these people won't be "surfing" Ebay for things at these times--but I DON'T think when they place a bid they're thinking: "I can't bid on this item because the auction ends when I'm dancing on Friday night," which is what you're implying, Kitty.

Belalug3-I like auctions that close in the afternoon-I bid often then,I figure since many people dont have access to the internet during working hours,I have an advantage.Besides, just because Im at my job and they pay me,do they actually expect me to work???

keziak mentioned yesterday that he/she had a problem with auctions ending Sunday night... Any idea why? Is it the downtimes? I've been having my auctions end Sunday night since I started selling online two months ago. I'm thinking about changing that, but anyone have any concrete reasons why Sunday night is no good?

belalug3,
lol, if you knew how dead-on you are! yes, that's what i'm saying, but it's aimed specifically at the buyers i sell to. wouldn't be true for most. i should have mentioned that.
circuitmatter,
i'm pretty sure that was about all the outtages that have been happening on sundays.
I think Sunday night is a good time as most people are home on Sunday night relaxing.
I start my auctions either on Sunday night and let them run 10 days or start them on Thursday night and let them end 10 days later on Sunday. Seems to work so far.

Actually, having some auctions end Friday afternoon has worked very well for me. People at work are bored and the boss is often out so I get a lot of people bidding from work.
What you list has a definite bearing. If I have something particularly appealing to west coast bidders, I have the auction end at times convenient for them. Usually I end my auctions about 8:30 Central if not a big West Coast item.
Craft and sewing items seem to do well with mid afternoon endings any day during the week. Know your customers!
I never end auctions on Friday evenings or anytime Saturday. I do try to look a week ahead to see if any big event will conflict with an ending time. For example, if the final game of the World Series will be on TV that is a time I avoid. A little thought about ending times definitely pays!

I like Sundays from 5-8pm (Pacific Time) - They always seem to get the most sniping on those auctions) - Second choice would be Mon-Thu evenings, or Saturday afternoons.

During the last couple winters, Sunday was best for me. Summers slowed wayyy down so I quit listing until fall. But this year....
I tried ending on weekday early evenings and I'm really doing well.
Could be since I sell rocks and gold, most rockhounds may not be home on summer weekends. Also most of my sales go east coast so I've been bumping the end times down and right now prices, bids, snipes, are all up by a huge margin over my weekend sales which I rarely do any more. At least until the cold weather comes back.
