The bulk of my money orders come from Travelers, the second place would be from Western Union. They have terms that dispute your statement.
Travelers Money Orders can not have a stop payment issued on them, but they will allow you to declare a money order lost, but it takes time and you can't do it over the phone, and there is a fee.
Western Union Money Orders can not have a stop payment issued on them, but they will allow you to declare a money order lost, but it takes time and you can't do it over the phone, and there is a fee.
Both Travelers and Western Union have a number you can call to verify if the money order is valid or not. For Travelers call 1-800-542-3590, for Western Union call 1-800-999-9669 there is an automated answering service, enter the money order serial number and it will give you info of whether or not it is valid.
