eBay is a good place to get screwed if you're a buyer or seller.
Happy now?

My sales are up. Better than ever!
I have good customers and not many of them are repeat buyer due to the nature of what I sell. So, I am a happy camper.

Meg, Pierre, and other insiders have sold over $800 million in stock. And still own 54% of the stock.
They employ almost 1,500 kids in Salt Lake and Provo. Keeping them at home in Utah, so they don't bother nice American's with their Church's mission. To bad they don't know how to answer phones! LOL
They prove P.T. Barnum right every moment of the day - every day.
I think eBay might - just might be god. LOL

It got me started with online selling and, due to a disability that would prevent further outside work, it offered me an opportunity that was life changing.
It has opened up a whole new world and I expect to have auctions still running when they lower me into the ground.
The great customers I've had are only exceeded by the community of sellers that have taught, carried, showed, scolded, led, help and offered a shoulder to cry on.
I love what eBay has offered me and what it has promise to become. The original Mission Statement has come true for me.
What I don't like are the policies of the present management and the destructive effects they are having on tens of thousands of small independent sellers. More on that elsewhere.

Ebay knows how to make money from everyone. I think they have a contract that when I have a firstborn, they get it.

Darn right...
I've made lots of money there in the last 4 years, and I continue to do so.
I've bought lots of neat stuff there in the last 4 years, and I continue to do so.
Thats 2 good things.

If you don't like what you hear about eBay here, why don't you go to eBay's boards- they don't allow critisism on their boards.

Well, I just had 7 auctions end today, my total cost for the items being sold was $10 Canadian, and the auction results just brought me $1,354 Canadian. By far my single best day ever.
eBay continues to grow, continues to bring home very pleasant results, and I guarantee there isn't another venue that could duplicate those results, or even come close.
In the local market here, I might have been lucky if I had got back $100!

Can someone please say something good about eBay??
Their efforts to monopolize the auction related services (auction managers, picture hosting, payment services, and storefronts) through strong arm tactics has been top of the line. Their efforts to isolate buyers from other avenues via "email privacy", "illegal links", and "auto recommendations" would make a mafia boss proud.

I like how you can go the Smart Search-User and type any random word or numerical digits and find a member with that name. The possibilties are more extensive than any other site.

I used to sell out of antique malls. So far, Ebay has been much more profitable and less work. It is easier to get along with my buyers than with antique mall owners. I rented from about 30 different malls. Several went out of business. Owners of one got a very ugly divorce. Each time there was a loss. And need to go fast.
Ebay takes a lot of reading and figuring out to keep on top of all the new inovations. I liked it better in the beginning. But did you ever deal with an antique mall ownere, who knew nothing of antiques?
I use paypal. It was a shock when their prices went up. Then I realized, every time I sold in an antique mall and the customer used a credit card, I was docked 4-5%. now I am free. I describe my own things. I handle my own things and my customers. I am not tied down as I was when I owned my own shop.

They don't have bad breath.
Least, not that I'm aware of. Sometimes if I get real close to the monitor I can get a faint whiff of spring-washed lilacs - oddly enough, this is also the fragrance of the fabric softener I use.

THey have changed the way I think of the WORLD! I can't believe that I am selling and buying "things" . When I go into a thrift store and see something , I have a very different idea of how I am looking at that object. When I see several people in the same store turning items over~ they too are looking at the world differently ~ I too, am unable to work through an accident and may never be able to go back to work but I find my life filled with excitmennt as I never know when I will find that "treasure" waiting to find a good home. Do I like ebay~ not really, but I love the action venue. Ebay is too much like Big Brother ~ and I have had my fill of those. But do I love Ebay ~ yes , I love it! Makes my life exciting, thrilling and sometimes down right miserable ( when items don't sell) . But at the very least said they didn't kick me off their site like Amazon because I don't have an American account in America!

I've had extremely good experiences both as a buyer and (occasionally) a seller. I've been able to purchase things for FAR less than I could anywhere else. I ended up buying many items that the rest of my [computer illiterate] family wanted too, so everyone's happy!
Ain't nothin' beats the thrill of sniping!!!
P.S. I learned about the AW boards through an eBay-er, and that's a GOOD thing (apologies to Martha Stewart).
Without eBay, I might have a real life...

I GOT TO GET RID OF ALL OF MY EMPLOYEES EXCEPT ONE!
I can now go home from work at 6 pm instead of 9 pm.
My kids are with me playing in their new playroom (it used to be the horror section of my video store) instead of in daycare.
I have EVERY Saturday & Sunday off.
I got this really cool Paypal debit card - and an account that ALWAYS surprises me that there is more money in it each time that I visit the site. Much better than worrying about bouncing checks!
If I want to do something instead of going to work - I DO IT!
Oh - and did I mention I got to get rid of all of my employees except one?
Funny thing - I have had several people tell me how much happier I look - no longer frazzled, no longer looking so stressed that I am about to have a stroke ... it's pretty bad when even your accountant notices!
eBay is a wonderful place to do business! It may have its faults, but it certainly is a whole lot better than my old brick and mortar.
Geez, I can't even say I miss the employees ~ cause I don't!
