My sister bought an item from this seller a few weeks ago and then went on vacation. She just received the following email and forwarded it to me. Doesn't this violate some eBay rule. I'm a little shocked but can't think of the best way for my sister to reply. Well...... I can think of a lot of things but it probably wouldn't be appropriate

What would you do/say?

Subject: NEGATIVE FEEDBACK- Item *****
Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 11:32:35 EDT

I have sent a couple of emails to you over the last few weeks stating that I had not received feedback from you. Please leave feedback for me or get with me about any problems you had with your item by Friday, June the 22nd, otherwise, I will be forced to leave a negative note on your feedback file. I am certain you appreciate any and all positive feedback you receive on items that you sell or receive and others appreciate the same.

Response....."After I returned from my vacation I was going to leaving a glowing feedback regarding our transaction as I was very happy with everything. I thought it could wait for my return. But with the receipt of this rude and impatient letter from you I think it would be better if we both just not bothered with any feedback at all."

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is about the RUDEST thing I've read in a week or so!

I hope she gives her NO feedback. I wouldn't get carried away and give a neg immediately.......but this late at night one sure feels like it, huh?

I wonder if maybe she shouldn't even reply..... seeing as how this person already has a burr under her saddleblanket! I am wondering if anything she might say - no matter how mild - might 'offend' this prickly person? No, you have to make an attempt to 'smooth the waters'.

This letter seems to be feedback extorsion, but before any of you young bucks jump in urging her to fire off a neg, remember the purpose of a neg. The item was delivered, the seller just has little class. I guess would suggest ONE email response, stating you (sis) were gone and came home surprised to see such anger in an email from a seller whom up to that time you were quite happy with. Try to not promise anything. When are your 60 days up? ALL EMAILS forward immediately to [email protected].

I hope all goes well, Mom

Yes they were paid for. My sister homeschools her children so they were books for next years studies. She is very prompt on mailing payment, etc. 90+ positives for buying. She is still on vacation and used one of those web/mail things to check her email when she got access to a computer.

I just checked the sellers "feedback left". She has never left a neg so either this works for her or it might be the first time she's trying it. Seller has 14 positives and has left 25 positives.

Well Now I must Say,
This person does seem to be a bit of a rude p&!@/, considering the fact that your sister is technically a 'valued client'.
Unfortunately your decision may not be in line with what your sister's needs may be.

I would email the seller and say-

Your sister is away on holiday and you are not authorised to leave FB in her absence, BUT if the seller cares to leave FB first then you will be prepared to go beyond the scope of your authority and gladly reciprocate with like FB. Otherwise the only option available to you both is to wait until your sister's.
.
.
Once the seller leaves FB: THEN LET THE p&!@/, HANG IN LIMBO until your sister's return and she can take over.
If the seller leaves a neg, don't worry, I have never read a listing on ebay that precludes a buyer with ANY -ve FB from bidding.
Yes I'm suggesting you lie, but it appears this person is deserving. If you leave a +VE FB first, what's to stop them neg'in you anyhow?

Although her methods suck, you have to give her credit for coming up with a new way to extort FB. She is probably just a seller who is sick of leaving FB and never getting any back. I would write back to her the following:
I know how very important feedback is to a seller to reflect on how a transaction went. We had a positive transaction up to the point where you threatened me with a negative. I would have left positive feedback for you as soon as I returned home from my vacation, but after your email I have decided I will not be leaving any feedback for you. If you choose to leave a negative for me, I will return the favor.

IF it was me I would just neg her and give the exact reason why. I think bidders would shy away from a seller like this and maybe it will teach her not to be so careless with her threats.

Absolutely rude and certainly do NOT let this person intimidate you!

You are not obligated by any means to leave her feedback. Feedback is a courtesy.

This lady must have forgotten to take her medication!

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions! I knew you all would have the right response. I will give my sister a link to this thread and let her choose.
Thanks again!

OhmyGAWD!!!
How NOT to have repeat customers.
see what Safeharbor says, I am curious.
What a superfreak.

I feel a perky response would be in order:

Thank you for your email!
I appreciate your professional approach to customer service!
At this time I will abstain from leaving feedback. Please kindly recall that feedback is a courtesy, not a requirement.
I will be forwarding your email to safeharbor as it is a threat.
If you choose to leave a negative, then I will have no choice but to respond in kind!
Thank you!!
