My opinion is well known:

SELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLERSELLER

Because eBay gets money from sellers and not buyers, and is too stupid to realize that while it's the sellers paying them, it's the buyers that pay the sellers.

THE BUYER.

eBay is motivated by attracting and keeping the buyers on the site.

That's why when they rolled out the updated qualifications for buyers to use BIN and it included placing a credit card on file etc., they ended up taking it back... because sellers complained that they were losing potential sales due to those requirements for BUYERS. (buyers didn't want to supply that information) - even though SELLERS must supply it in order to SELL.

That's why eBay doesn't yet require BIDDERS to supply verifiable information in order to participate on the site... they're afraid that it would inhibit registering and BIDDING.

eBay doesn't care WHO or WHAT the buyers BID on or BUY... as long as they do it at EBAY.
(and that's why there isn't any seller loyalty from eBay regarding the Mom & Pops)

That's why eBay doesn't REQUIRE new bidders to take a tutorial... they don't want to do anything that would turn away a potential BUYER. (don't wanna scare them off before they get a chance to BID/BUY on the site).

eBay can impose all kinds of restrictions on SELLERS and make the SELLERS jump through hoops (regarding NPBs to be filed and FVF for any credit on listings ending with deadbeat bidders) and REQUIRE sellers to provide verifiable information, credit card information, banking information... because eBay has an abundance of SELLERS and eBay KNOWS that sellers will CONTINUE to list on the venue NO MATTER WHAT.

The WATCH THIS AUCTION feature was rolled out for the convenience of potential BIDDERS.
(not sellers)

The Similar Items Links and "reco" eMails were rolled out because of feedback from BIDDERS that they get frustrated when they bid on items and don't win.
(this was NOT seller motivated)

MOST of the things that eBay rolls out is geared toward the potential BUYERS on the site. The marketplace would starve if eBay didn't continue to find ways to bring more buyers to the site and KEEP THEM THERE.

The new policy on LINKS - is to keep bidders from being taken to other venues that are NOT OWNED by eBay. (eBay doesn't care if the buyers go to Half.com because it's the same house, different window)

There is no concern for a shortage of sellers... ebay's got plenty of those, in ALL sizes.

MISTERBAR: you should edit your post and hit the return key right in the middle of that long "sellersellerseller" post so that the board isn't broken for everyone else.

eBay favors eBAY.

And then, in no particular order, buyers and sellers.
