Below is a link of a lobbyist site of which eBay is a member, it has several good articles regarding how B&M middlemen are attempting to not allow consumers to deal directly with manufactorers.

Thanks for posting. Good articles.
I own a B&M shop. I hate all taxes and license fees, but I pay them. I love not having to deal with sales tax on Ebay,
However, the taxes do pay for schools, roads, fire trucks, etc. etc. so if I close my shop and sell straight on line and so do many others, that will be a significant loss of revenue.
Right now when I apply for my annual shop licencse we need to provide, our state sales tax number, our federal Id number, our state business number and our social securities and several other pages of personal information. Can you imagine the cross referencing that must go on?
So should all shops close and join in the ecommerce. At some point they would have to if the internet remains a tax free place to do business. Hard to compete with that. So maybe should just join them .

Yup I do charge sales tax on buyers from my state but that has been only 1 percent of my auctions, so pretty easy to deal with.
