I have had check bouncers and NPBs before, but this one is really strange.
I sold a stuffed animal to a lady. She paid by money order and I mailed it to her. She writes me all pissed off claiming it smells like cigarette smoke and that she is going to neg me for it because I had in my listing that it was coming from a nonsmoking home.
It has to be a case of buyer's remorse. If she negs me, is there any way I should respond to it and is there any way that ebay will remove it? Should I then neg her for lying on my fb?

If she negs you just respond in a professional non emotional manner. Future bidders will not be scared off.
By any chance is it washable? Many plush toys are, so ask her to check the label. Can postal employees smoke on the job? I am not sure, but if a box sat near smoke for a bit of time I guess it might be possible that the smell could get through it and a very sensitive nose might pick up on it. ??? Like I said I am not sure if they can smoke in a postal vehicle or not-- does anybody else know?
Anyway good luck to you.

Postal workers do smoke in the trucks, mine's a 2 pack a day man. You have to be so careful on this smoking thing. I see 50 year old dolls advertised as never been around smoke, heck in the 50s even if you were a non smoker, you let Aunt Tilly smoke. Ed

If you buy used items for resale, there is always the chance the previous owner smoked.
To advertise that something comes from a nonsmoking environment is just asking for trouble unless you can keep the item in your sight until it passes on to the buyer.

I had the item since it was bought new from the store. It was packed in bubble wrap and the box was sealed in clear tape. Box didn't have any cardboard without tape on it. Don't know how it would've gotten smoke on it. I don't think it's possible.

I'm not sure from your first post if you are interested in "customer satisfaction" or the neg.
I agree that you ought to have her send it back and refund. But I do work with my buyers, some sellers don't. That is up to you.
If it is just the negative you are worried about, and you get one, then yes, just respond in a professional manner and as much as we sometimes want to, try not to badmouth the bidder.
Best of luck!

Since you can't please everyone, just resign to the fact that she might give you a neg. Tell her she's welcome to send it back and after you receive it (to be sure it was the same one you sent), give her a refund.
If she does give you a neg, tell her to get a life and then give her a retailiatory neg stating that she lied in order to get a refund which didn't work.
If other sellers read your neg, they might cancel her auctions. I read feedbacks of my bidders and have cancelled many bids and placed them on my bidder block lists so I won't risk a neg.
Until eBay fixes the feedback system, I'll do everything possible to keep my negs low.

This appears to be a growing tactic among shifty buyers. What they are looking for is for you to refund the money and tell them to keep the item to avoid return shipping fees. They feel they have you over a barrel since they are claiming the item is 'not as described' and therefor making it seem like fraud on your part.
There is no easy way to deal with this that I know of. I recently sent a leather purse and the lady complained that it was not as described since it smelled of mildew and had dry rot. She insisted on a full refund, and offered to donate the purse to a charity to save me money on return postage. I took the hit and payed the return postage also, only to find that returned to me a purse that smelled of perfume and had no dry rot whatever.
I have left no feedback, since I really dont feel like getting into a neg war, which hurts me as a seller ALOT more than her as a buyer. I offer 'satisfaction guaranteed' which means I accept returns, but normally in this situation I would not have been put in the position to pay postage both ways, which means I will lose money on this item even if resold.
Whats needed is a massive list of scammer bidders that could be added to our blocked bidder lists. Hopefully a place could be found to post such a list.

I just have one yesterday. She send me about 5 e-maills threathen to neg me and report to ebay. She say I enlarge the photo to fool her on my auctions. She want Paypal refund now and then she will send back my items. I told her NO, send back the items and I will refund her the money. She is on my block list now.
What a bi**h.

well, I told the buyer since it didn't smell of cigarette smoke when it left here that I didn't feel responsible.
She mailed it back anyway, it has a big cigarette burn on it. She sure isn't going to get any money out of me since she destroyed it

Sounds like she just put the ciggie burn on the item to be a b*tch cuz you didn't want to refund her w/o getting it back. It's unbelieveable what some people will do!

Did she return the stuffed animal to you without you knowing she was going to do that?
You don't have a photo of it from the auction do you? Showing it doesn't have the burn?
I don't know if it is a good idea to keep both the purse and the money. Did you have to sign for the purse?
She probably did ruin it on purpose on you but now you have to decide if the amount she paid is worth the aggrevation of her in your life.
She seems like a real loser and I feel for you.
edited because I said it was a purse, not a stuffed animal.
