A couple of days ago I put a bid in on a neat old "Funeral & Furniture"
sign. The seller had "Buy it now"...but I chose to bid instead, thinking might get it for less.

Here's the rub...I got an
"outbid" notice today. When I went in to up my bid...I saw the auction was closed. Another bidder had upped the bid to the "BIN" and the Auction Closed!

Correct me if I'm wrong..
But isn't the "BIN" taken off after someone puts in the first bid?

Just call me "Dazed & Confused"..........!!!

Did the auction state that it closed with a "buy-it-now"? If not, perhaps the seller chose to close it.

I have had bidders ask what the BIN price was and if I will close the auction if they pay that price. I don't and usually the it goes higher than my BIN.

The buy it now is gone once there is a bid placed on a no reserve auction. However, on a reserve auction, the buy it now remains until the bid amount reaches the buy it now price. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that's how it works.

I'm pretty sure that IF there is a RESERVE on the item, equal to the original BIN price, the auction will closed if the high bidder meets that price. I hope that makes some sense?

YES!...It did say the Auction had closed with "Buy it Now". That is what is so confusing. Any ideas on how to handle this?

That's right, bevhead, if there is a reserve the BIN stays intact until someone bids past the reserve. So someone could still conceivably take it for the BIN if your bid didn't meet the reserve.

There was No Reserve! Just an opening bid amount. It just doesn't make sense!

Did you look under the Bid History? It's possible (though highly unlikely) that the seller could have cancelled your bid and the BIN would have reappeared. But that wouldn't explain getting an outbid notice.

Sounds like an eBay bug to me!

If the first bidder "bids", the BIN is supposed to disappear.

Unless the item has a reserve, then the BIN & reserve stay there until either the auction ends or the reserve is met. But I don't believe..once a "bid" is placed, that even with a reserve the BIN was be invoked after the first bid is placed.

I went back in to the item in question and saw that there WAS a Reserve price, However...I have bid on many a "BIN" item that had a first bid, and never had the auction close when the bid reached the original "Buy it Now" amount.

Still.."Dazed & Confused".

It sounds like the seller set the 'reserve' price equal to the 'BIN' price.

If there is a reserve price, BIN *WILL* remain active until the reserve is met.

Found an auction in this state and the ebay message is: "This option disappears once the reserve price is met."

Though there are bids, the BUY IT NOW icon is still active.

"This option disappears once the reserve price is met."

Dazed, confused, and too poor to pay attention.
