This evening (Sun ~9 pm edt) I noticed auctions showing AW banners and a message that their photo hosting was down for rehosting in place of photos. I haven't seen any related anouncements on AW, are they taking CS lessons from ebaY?

Yep! That's where they learned the CS skills! I have had it. Found a new site that treats customers with respect and even has live phone support. As soon as I learn the new site and run my relists, I'm out of here!

Could that be why I couldn't get into A.W.'s Image Hosting tonight? And why oh why must things always happen on a Sunday night?
