Help, Oh Wise Pottery and Ceramics People!

Is there a website somewhere that lists pottery marks for identification? I have a white (vegetable?) ceramic bowl with only H-137 on the bottom.

Thanks!!

Hiya toollady - howya doin?!

Sure I have a picture (or three). I shrunk them so they wouldn't drag down the thread too much . . .

(please excuse the dirty feet on this one!)

I can't give you an all-inclusive web site, but there is a book that lists a LOT of American ceramic marks. Lois Lehner's Book on American Marks on Pottery and China. Kind of old now, but you should be able to find it on Amazon.

I usually look at ohioriverpottery.com and associated links.

For other countries, Kovel puts out a good marks book even tho it lists really esoteric marks that you will never see.

I have a book called "A Dictionary Of Marks" for ceramics, metalwork, furniture and tapestry.

I never use it. I should probably list it on ebay.

BTW, your item looks like it has a mold number or design number. I doubt that's a manufacturer's ID.

LC is correct, the mark is a pattern or design number, so the chances of finding any info by the mark alone is pretty much zero. I don't recognize the piece, but perhaps someone else will?

Aahhh, a mold number - that makes sense as to why it's so generic looking. I knew I'd learn something here.

glassperson - thanks for the ohioriverpottery link! Good one. I'm going to go fool around in there for a while.

Thanks everyone for your comments, if anyone has any more good ID site links I'd appreciate it . . .

Thanks, glassperson. They do have it at Amazon. Just ordered it and one on marks on glass, too.

Maybe someone will recognize this set, too.
No marks on the dishes, just the #11 on the sugar bowl.

Any help appreciated.
