I just opened an auction page and found the seller had background music on his sales page. The auction page downloaded at a normal speed so the music didn't slow it down at all. Anyone out there know how to attach music to their auction? And is there a site to pick up music clips for that purpose along with the music icon or player?

Well you dont need the player to have music on your auctions, You can search on yahoo or any where else for midi files there are millions freely avalable.

add the sound to your auction with the bgsound HTML tag you must have web space to store your midi file on they have to be remotely loaded and you can't store them on auction watch with your photo's.

Just a note more buyers dont like music on auction listing then do because they like to do there auction buying late night the rest of the house is sleeping sudden blasting music on a auction listing is disrupting.

i'm one of those buyers who do not like music played for me. it's one of the few things that'll make me back out of a listing very quickly - that and very large photo files. for me it's not about late-night browsing and concern about waking others (no one else here except my cat), but i like to choose what music i want to listen to, or to not listen to any at all. plus those files sound awful on my puter!

there are some buyers who won't mind, and probably even some who will like it, but i think there are many more who don't and will back out of your listing.

there are some buyers who sneak onto ebay at work. This can get them in trouble.

I do most of my buying late evening / early mornings, nothing like clicking an auction and being greeted by blaring sound clips of "THE ROSE". I normally jump about 5 feet knocking over my drink and my better half promptly wakes up in a bad mood.

Please don't startle me that early in the morning.

I agree, I hear music, and I just won't stick around. I wouldn't advise using it in your auctions.

Ditto the others. Music, animations, etc makes me hit the back button without a second thought. Getting eBay's unwanted graphics in the form of lingering popups makes my auction shopping slow enough, without having to wait for all the other user glop to download as well.

By all means, put music in your auctions!!

That way, all the lookers who back out of your auctions may happen upon mine and give me more bids!

Seriously, music can be annoying, ditto everyone else.

jrb3, I hope you didn't burn yourself with your coffee at 5AM?

Once I was browsing through Scottish items, serenely thinking of heather, lochs, moors ... I opened an auction page and was greeted by very loud bagpipe music! Mood shattered (and nerves), I hastily backed out.

I also do not want to view pictures of the seller's cute little dog, superior cat, or ferret, hedgehog, bird or even their beautiful children. I wanna see STUFF I CAN BID ON!!

The other thing is color fonts that make it hard to read and busy, busy wallpaper.

Or descriptions of how great the seller is or never-ending TOS.

I guess the bottom line is, just get to the point.

I don't want Music from some auction drowning out my "Drowning Pool" Music!!

I'd prefer to hear Metal than some Artsy-Fartsy crap!!

I would probably try something mellow like "Thrasher" or "Judas Priest"

I enjoy music in eBay ads. But I find a whole lot more entertaining the AW threads about "how do I add music to my ads?"

Don't do it - it will cost you bidders. And I haven't seen anyone say "Oh I bid on that widget cause he had such nice music in the ad!"

I think it's very neat that people would want to add creativity to their auction pages. Most eBay pages are totally dull. However, the purpose of a page is to get bids and you have less than about 4-5 seconds to get the attention of the bidder to do so.

FYI, music and fancy graphics are murder on the anemic computer systems that many surfers own. They crashed my previous incarnation system more than once. I was very impressed by the designer's efforts but I did not bid--a better description would have made me more inclined than trying to show me how clever they were.
