I've just been cheated out of some money by a buyer.

[Simple story: he underpaid by a few dollars, but I shipped anyway 'cause he had a large, all-positive record. Now I can't get the dollars out of him. Several polite emails have been ignored, but I know he's online because he's still buying from others.]

Anyway, I intend to neg the guy. It will be the first negative I've ever given, in hundreds of transactions.

I want to avoid a retaliation neg, of course. So I'd like to do it at the last minute that feedbacks can be left. I'd heard this was "90 days" but that was long ago and now I can't find that info in the eBay help.

Can anyone tell me... is it 90 days? Is it 90 days by the clock i.e. 90 x 24 hrs from the moment the auction ended?

So...how much does he owe you? What's a "few dollars"?

Unfortunately, there is no "hard" time limit on the ability to leave feedback.

Ebay basically follows the 90 day limit VERY loosely, so you may neg on the last second of that 90 day period---only to find out that the person you negged has about 15 more days to neg you back.

It sucks, but that's Ebay.

Nope, can tell you first hand the 90 day rule is loose. Had my first neg left well after 90 days.

I've heard some can be in there for up to 120 days, others are out in far less. No hard and fast rule anymore.

Thanks to all for the info - you answered my question real well (and in just an hour!).

I'll have to take my chances on the retaliation neg. At least I won't have to wait 90 days. I will give him another couple of weeks, though.

You shipped anyway? That's the real problem. I love my bidders too and I trust them, but you should never ship without full payment as this is one boundary that many bidders try to cross without permission. The term FULL PAYMENT probably belongs on most folks TOS.

Negging this guy is not a good idea. If he doesn't come through, the worst you should do is a neutral since you failed to observe the most basic TOS.
