Hi,

I could make so much more money, if it didn't take me so long to fix up my images. Most of them have to be rotated 90 degrees and trimmed and resized. I won't even get into some of the other compulsive things I do to them.

It would help the most if I could just rotate and resize a bunch of them all at once. I use Adobe Photo Deluxe 4.0, plus Image Navigator which has this Web Guru program I haven't been able to figure out yet.

I am also on a quest for the fastest way to remove the entire background from an image, leaving the main part, i.e. the person or thing in the picture. Or just a good way of making the background completely white. I can't seem to do that without messing up the part I want to keep or edges being all jagged, etc., etc.

In case you all can't tell, I'm a bit of an amateur in the photography department.

Any suggestions?

There is a small program called Irfanview that I use on all my ebay photos. It can be picked up at www.irfanview.com. It has batch conversion on the menu and I think it will do many of the things you want. It is also freeware. Pictures load quickly and it is relatively easy to use. The program itself is about 400K and performs a lot of functions. As an experiment I just dropped a JPEG onto the Irfanview icon and it took approximately two seconds to load on a Pentium 1 233 computer.

I have found that if you want a white background put a white sheet behind the object you are photographing. Very often it is easier to take a photo with the correct lighting and background than to try to convert it. Even professional photographers use this method.

I use a Nikon Coolpix and use the imaging software that came with it to rotate photos when they are downloaded. Sometimes you can't tell their orientation so some get by the initial process. Seems like most people on ebay prefer a Sony Mavica. I think most of these people haven't even looked at a Coolpix which has 3 image size settings and three JPEG qualities for each size and does extremely good closeup work (end of editorial).

Good luck!

Thank you for the "editorial". Very helpful.

I use a Nikon Coolpix too.

I love my Nikon! I have the Coolpix 800, and the Mavica 73 that I sold a month ago doesnt compare to it. The quality is obviously better, but the additional features add alot of value to my picture taking. One thing that I like is that the pictures are very big--big to the extent that it forces you to crop, something I did only rarely with the Mavica. I was concerned about the pictures being too big to load quickly on eBay, but since I crop most of the backgrounds out (and resize when necessary), it hasnt been an issue.

Make the jump, people!

For taking pictures for ebay I usually use the VGA-normal setting. Generally that gives me a 60K JPEG to work with(640x480). I also use the close-up function a lot. For my regular photography I use the XGA-fine setting (about 300K).

I read this forum a lot and don't think I've ever seen a pro Nikon thread.

I haven't seen a Pro Nikon thread either. My Coolpix 800 has been just great. I bought it when the newer ones were coming out (I think 880's or 900's). The only difference was more features on the new ones and I don't really need everything mine has. Since the
resolution was the same, I stuck with the 800. I haven't noticed them dropping in price too much either and I've had it for quite a while now. Great for close ups.
