I got this email from a winner of one of my auctions. Her item is being sent today (as per the terms of the listing). She is a 1 feedback newbie. What do you think is the best way to calm her down?

>HI THIS IS XXX I WAS THE HIGH BIDDER OF YOUR AUCTION FOR THE I STILL HAVE NOT RECIEVED IT IF ITS NOT IN MY MAIL BOX
>IN 3 DAYS IM GOING TO REPORT YOU IF YOU STILL DONT SEND IT IM GOING TO FIND
>OUT WHERE YOU LIVE AND CALL YOUR BANK AND TELL THEM YOU HAVENT SENT WHAT I
>PAYED FOR

Dear Ms. Freakout,

I am so sorry you have not recieved your widgett yet, I like many other ebay sellers can not make it to the Post Office every day to do mailings.I try to post my mailing instructions in all of my auctions, I am sorry if I may have confused you. I am planning on mailing your widgett today, you will recieve a mailing conformation as soon as I come back. Again I would like to thank you for bidding on my item and please have a wonderful day and most importantly enjoy your new widgett.

Regards,
missdonna

Ah newbies..can't live with them, can't live without them.

You might try something along these lines:

Welcome to ebay!

Under ebay rules, each seller is allowed to set the terms of their auction conditions. Mine includes (shipping when payment is received, holding for 10 days..insert your conditions here).

I reeived your payment on XX date and in accordance with terms of my auction, have mailed your package on YY date. This is totally within the acceptable guidelines of ebay.

While I cannot control the speed with which the USPS delivers packages to your area, I'm sure it will be arriving to you shortly. If it doesn't arrive within ZZ days (pick a reasonable period), then please contact me again and I will gladly work with you to resolve the situation.

Sincerely...

you're nicer than me- my first thought was to tell her where to go and exactly how fast. but i did send a "thank you for your inquiry- i'll look into it" instead of a "you miserable person, calm the heck down"

and what's with that "i'll find where you live" business- like its worth taking the bus across the country to hunt me down or something!

Is there a Miss Manners website you can refer her to?

I've avoided most of this by sending an email when I receive payment that includes the date I'll mail the item - I don't email again when I ship unless they've requested it. I still get a few "where's my item" inquiries, but it's been awhile.

Another solution: While I retrieve my email as soon as I sign on, I don't actually read it until I've had my coffee, and my blood sugar is at normal levels. This makes the occasional moron easier to deal with.
