I'm really tired of Paypal sticking it to me every time I turn around. The last straw was when they removed the 1.5% cashback when using their debit card. What a cheap shot after already increasing fees twice in the last few months. I keep the service for my customers who prefer it but I have found a way to get back at them (albeit in a very tiny way if I'm the only one). I am going to sweep my account every night. I know this is not a revolutionary idea but if it starts to happen in great numbers, maybe they will start giving back to the people like me who helped build their (apparently still fledgling) company into what it is today. Please join me in this fight/struggle/whatever. It's kinda like everyone flushing their toilet at the same time-it should make a big sucking sound. The same sound that Paypal's been making since the beginning of this year. One other thing: when was the last time someone received a referral bonus from them? It's been about a year for me yet I know I've brought them hundreds of new customers.

blue. Sorry to learn that you are unhappy with Paypal. As an Intenational Trader I am convinced I get higher bids and have had payment 5 minutes after an auction ends. Their US$-GB£ exchage rates are not the finest on the market, but I guess it is made up for by higher bids. And you do not have to pay $0.64 sending your $ bills to UK!

UK-
I do get a lot of "instant" payments and I love that. My customers are great for the most part and that's why I keep services like Paypal. I want them to have as many options as possible. It's just that they have "restructured" their fees too many times. Also I should add, most of my tickets are under $15 which is where you really get hurt by these fees.

Blue. Most of my sales to US are under $15. I make 100% profit and are happy.

Your source of this information? I'm still getting 1.5% cashback.

I'm no pp cheerleader, but what exactly am I getting even with them for?

Oh, that's right, for allowing me to take credit cards as a small seller. You think their rates suck? Ask your bank (small sellers only, the b&m store owners may be getting a better rate) what their rate is if you want a merchant account.

And they did it when Billpoint was only doing it for powersellers. And before anyone else for that matter.

You want to really get even? Close your account. Personally, I'm not going to waste my time keeping track of 30-31 wire transfers into my checking account each month. I'm not angry at me.

I was unaware there was any method to "sweep" the account without being charged. Would you please ellaborate? I was informed by PayPal Customer Service that the "auto-sweep" option was no longer available.

Just how does one get their funds out of PP account other than requesting a check (they charge) or using the Debit Account (which they charge & limit the dollar amount)? I was under the impression they charge for wire transfers into checking accounts (and/or my bank charges for receiving them).

Thanks!

I still get cash back too... Got it today after I used it as a credit card at the Post Office.
But I do agree that we should remove our money daily, but I usually just spend most of it at the Post Office and the grocery store, whatever is left over is usually mainly my few cents "cash back"...

I got back at PayPal. I switched back to a personal account and no longer mention PayPal on my auctions. It's the summer slump on eBay...I won't give them one penny and it feels...great!

The chargeback thing is near ridiculous. They give you back maybe half of what they took from you. Gee, aren't they swell!?!?

"bluepaloma I'll join you, at least they won't have our money to play around with."

Let's try to screw a company that gives us another option, that'll really teach us a lesson!

"I got back at PayPal. I switched back to a personal account and no longer mention PayPal on my auctions. "

Yup, that'll certainly entice the bidders that want to pay by CC.

You guys do what you want, I'll give my bidders as many payment options as they want.

(Okay, let's try this again without referring to a specific auction...)

PayPal offers the 1.5% cash back on its debit card to "PayPal Preferred Sellers."

From the PayPal web site...

"To become PayPal Preferred and get 1.5% cash back on debit card purchases, just make sure that PayPal is the only online payment option advertised in your auction listings. PayPal will spot-check listings once a week."

I took a look at a couple of bluepaloma's eBay auctions. Each of them advertised BillPoint and BidPay in the text description and with icons. I'd have to assume that's why PayPal denies you the 1.5% cash back; because you don't meet the terms.

Question is, were those terms different when you signed up for the card?

The 1.5% cashback bonus is still there but, in order to get it now, you must sign up for a preferred account.

aluminumshrine-
Yes there were different rules. When I signed up for the debit card, there was no mention of being "paypal-preferred". That was just instituted recently and is the whole reason behind this thread. At least with the 1.5% back, you could recoup part of the over 4% fees (percentage based on $15 purchase). Also important to note that by narrowing your payment options, you knock out a good amount of potential bidders, especially those who have had bad experiences with Paypal and prefer Billpoint, et al.

dman3-
You are correct in stating they aren't dependent on the float anymore but you can bet they still make a huge amount of $ that way. Where it was their bread and butter in the beginning, it's now all gravy.

Mitzee-
It is free to do an electronic sweep of your Paypal account directly to your checking account. Takes about 30 seconds to accomplish.

Sadie999-
I know b&m merchants who do less than a lot of ebay sellers who get 2-3% rates. The only card that gets merchant rates like Paypal's is American Express. That's why a lot of b&m merchants don't accept Amex.

Folks, the fact of the matter is Paypal has changed their tune so many times it's dizzying. And they continue to. Had they started out being forthcoming then I would have a modicum of sympathy for them. Instead, it's been the opposite. Still waiting for someone who has received a referral bonus lately to come forward...

The only reason I keep my funds in my Paypal account is (1) Even though its dropping, I'm still getting better interest there than in my B&M savings account and (2) the Paypal Debit Card.

I continue to offer Billpoint, Bidpay, and Paydirect in my EOA notices to buyers - although few choose to take advantage of those services - as long as buyers prefer Paypal, I'll continue to offer it..

My disappontment now is having to suck in and pay 2.9% plus the 30 cents for less than $15 transactions.. which is pretty much everything I sell anymore..

Billpoint will probably get more push in my EOA notices in the future since my merchant account with them will be cheaper than Standard Paypal.. too bad too..

Katiyana-
I put the Billpoint instant purchase info in all of my auctions and about half of my electronic payments come from them now. As far as interest being earned by me on my Paypal money market, it's amounted to less than $1 and I do a pretty good volume through them.

I am currently doing a little marketing test of my own to see if offering Billpoint makes any difference - by starting a new ID and listing the same items there but offering Billpoint.. so far I"ve gotten only 1 bid - and that was from someone who bought the item under my main id and wanted another one, so I directed her there....

I'll probably end up relisting, and this time including BOTH BIllpoint and Paypal and comparing the #'s.

An electronic transfer from PayPal direct to your bank account is free (unlike the checks, which you have to pay for) and usually takes just a couple of days.

If you're really into self-torment, you could ask for one every day of the month and then deal with adding them all up...but why? What is the point? If you hate PayPal so much, drop it!

I do an EFT when my PP balance is over $100, and that's about all the extra bookkeeping I want to do. I also keep the attached checking account at around $100-$200, so I am in no danger of having my life's savings charged back by some irate buyer.

I want to make money. I spend my time selling, not plotting retribution against perceived enemies in the form of online payment options.

Hi bluepaloma,

I am wondering what made you think that the cashback is still not in effect? This still applies for users that use their debit card for purchases.

Damon-
I was told by one of your telephone attendants before I started this thread that that was the case. Just like I was told by another person at your company that there was not going to be a % charge under $15 when indeed there was. I get more conflicting info from you guys than good info. The bottom line is Billpoint's fees (for seller's averaging $15 and under on each transaction, which is a lot of us) are almost half of what Paypal's are. Paypal was built on our backs. I've sent you hundreds if not thousands of customers and this is the thanks I (we) get??

Hi bluepaloma,

I have not been advised of any immediate plans to end cashback (I am fairly connected to the policy changes that occur,as well as the overall design). The change would also be noted under the policy changes section of our site.

The best way to get back at Paypal is to close your account. If a lot of people did so they'd have to go back to giving away incentives of low rates or cash back. By sweeping your account daily you raise their costs, and they would either have to impose extra fees or other restrictions to keep their costs down.

I became unhappy with PayPal when they began to charge the 2.9% plus .30 cents. I sometimes sell items for only $1 or $2 to clear out inventory. After paying eBay and then PayPal I am giving away these items. I have decided to do this clearance only once every month or so, and not use PayPal during that week by removing the icon and link, and telling the bidders I won't take PayPal on these auctions. The rest of time I will use PayPal as my high bidders are happy and so am I. I will see how this works out. I do take personal checks and I don't see why bidders would rather use a credit card and pay interest for a $1 item than write a check. Beats me.

It costs about 50c to pay by check. 34c postage, the cost of the envelope and check, as well as the time it takes to fill out a check and address an envelope.

What's the monthly interest on a $1 charge? Maybe, 1 or 2 cents.

Obviously paying by credit card is faster and cheaper.

The difference is that when a customer pays by check, the BUYER pays the "fees." When that same customer pays with PayPal, the SELLER has to pay. Even though I accept PayPal, the benefits go to the buyer. I sell a lot of "low dollar" items and all the fees pretty much take care of any profits! In fact, I'm seriously thinking of saying in my descriptions "No PayPal if final bid is under $15.00".
