that things I want to sell on Ebay seem to be going for next to nothing or no bids at all-but items I want to purchase are going at retail price?? Smiley face here if I knew how to do one.

I would say the answer is to start selling the items you want to buy these are the ones there is a market for today, This is why they sell better
