As has been decussed on these boards befor, Half. is trying to get everyone to sign up for direct deposit. To get this they need bank account & SS#'s. After 3-4 emails & 3-4 very vague responses from Half. we finally got this today,...
"Thank you for writing about reaching your seller limit. I'd be happy to
help.

I apologize for out being vague about seller limits. The seller limits
are not given out at any time due to privacy concerns of your account
and other sellers accounts. The seller limits will vary from account to
account and month to month. We only ask for more information on
accounts that sell near this amount to prevent fraud on the site."

So they admit they have no policy! From month to month you do not know the rules you are playing under. First off we did not have a limit when we signed up & now that we do they will not tell us what it is. Am I just that stupid that I can not see how this is in "the sellers benefit" (From an old email)

Why the heck does Half require your SSN# for depositing funds into your bank account???? eBay doesn't require it with BillPoint.

What is it with all these companies trying to get ahold of your SSN#???

It is for income tax reporting. If you don't like using your SS #, get a tax ID number.

The last I heard the limit was a movement of $10,000 for mandatory automatic reporting.

This came about in the 1980's to combat the movement of drug money and money laundrying.

Banks, by statute, can not allow money to come in unless there is a tax ID of the depositer. Unless you have a tax ID number, the SS# is used. If the tax ID isn't present with a deposit, an account holder can claim the funds weren't deposited by them - it was either a mistake or an unknown benefactor, hence the taxman's case becomes much harder.

But if you use a tax ID number, the banks usually force you to open a commercial account.

This is the latest reply. As you can see, they will not tell us what our limit is.

Thanks for contacting Half.com Customer Service!

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. But we can not
divulge what are seller limits are for the security of all members which
includes our buyer's or seller's. These limits have been put in place
because of the new categories on our site and if they were not in place
it would endanger both buyer's by being able to get refunds and seller's
from getting paid. We require our successful sellers to provide us with
additional information to ensure that you continue to process Half.com
orders without interruption. This additional information is used to
verify your identity and further ensure that all of our Members have a
pleasant experience buying and selling on Half.com.

I hope this clears up a little of your confusion about why seller limits
are in place. Thank you for your time.
