I had a super weekend - actually, the last two have been pretty good.

The best deal was for us, a Canon 35mm camera, with a zoon lens, a x2 adapter, a motor drive, a bunch of filters, a hard case, all the documentation - $20. I think the geezer's going to sleep with it under his pillow, he's so afraid I'll sell it.

Some very nice books (25-50 cents ea), three of which are going to do pretty well almost fersure.

Some lovely porcelain dolls, another porcelain doll with a cat's head and paws, but dressed like a human, and a nice little stuffed bear. A small Norcrest pitcher and bowl - decorative, not the big useful kind. Also, I don't know what to call it yet, but it's a tube with candles around it and slats above it and when you light the candles, the heat hitting the slats makes it rotate so the carousel moves. A french press coffee pot (found that in a free box), a bead loom set nib, and last but not least, a book with an audio cassette attached called "Is Elvis Alive?" (I may not be able to part with that one.)

My living room looks like a storage facility. I'm so ready for xmas!

I had a better weekend last week, but this week I did find a couple of cheap things. A few hello kitty items that should sell okay, some books, and a few odds and ends for my kids. I found an old puzzle that I thought I would sell but my youngest has taken a real liking to it, so I might hang on to it for a little while.

I always like to read what other people find- it is interesting!

At an estate sale, about 1:00p.m, ready to quit when I noticed a lady pawing through hankies and folding some up and stuffing some in a bag. She was just putting 'Grandmas' old stuff' out. Got a dozen really nice handkerchief and a crocheted baby hat for 25 cents each! Would have loved to look at what she kept!

Sadie-that cat doll sounds like a Dolly Dingle. My daughter collects the "people" dolls. I forget what they call the pets.

Thank you susan1232 - I just did a search, and the dolly dingle cat I found on eBay is much sweeter than the doll I purchased. Mine's almost sort of scary looking.

MrsSC, LOL on the squidgy tape - yep, that would be a keeper. The Elvis book and tape are still in the shrinkwrap, so I have to decide what to list if for w/out listening, but I may just satisfy my curiosity and listen to and list if for a bit less. I'll do a search first.

I am green with envy!
It seems that nothing around here goes for a quarter or 50c anymore...everyone thinks they have a goldmine in every bit of junk they own! The last thing I remember finding was a self-help tape still sealed for $1.00 and it sold for $11.00...but that is a RARE occurance for us.

I was second at the estate sale. I just missed a gorgeous cedar chest for $20. My husband was so funny, walking around the house trying to find an attic. It was pretty much everything in the house was for sale. Just make an offer. I guess he just knew there would be something really good in the attic. Turns out it didn't have one

I went to the NSync concert and missed the garage sales

I got a $20 tee shirt, a $4.50 coke, a $5.00 lanyard with their picture, and the biggest hug in the world.

Overall, a very satisfying day!

BTW, the lanyard sold for $35 on eBay - unfortunately I would have to cut Hayley's head off to get it off of her neck

antiker69,

You could probably do rather well on Ebay with those dresses and hoop skirts. Besides the vintage clothing seekers, you will have lots of high school & college girls looking for neat stuff to wear to their "40s-50s" dance once school is back in session. Lots of high schools and sororities host these types of period dances. And if all else fails, someone will buy them for Halloween costumes in late Sept, early Oct. Good luck!

Can I do a little bragging?

I spent about $15.00 at yard sales last weekend (a week ago) and got several items including a nice CD carrying case for my teenage daughter.

Two of the most interesting items I put on ebay. I had $2.50 into these two and they brought a total of $70.05! Now that's how I like it to go.

I've got a few more items from this batch to sell, but they won't bring anything like that.
Why couldn't I have been the guy that invented Bullsh*t Repellant?

We got a few goodies this weekend:
Wrestling figures (a whole bunch) + the ring w sound (HELP!) for a few bucks
Some Melmac, Old desk set & Old brass desk lamp, old Las Vegas ashtrays, a cottage planter for my newly decorated kitchen, and a wonderful old wooden incense burning cottage (MINE!) for 10 cents.....

But we had a lot of fun!...This weekend was our churches "Barn Yard" sale & my two younger sons & I took grandma (86 yrs young) with us. They had music playin' and places to sit. A little nosh in case you got hungry....We shopped, we sat awhile, we enjoyed the music. And then I was touched when my 11 year old came to me asking for money...well, since they get money at the beginning of the day, I needed to know why he needed more. He wanted to tip the man who was playing the keyboards, since the guy was a volunteer and he made the atmosphere super!...Of course I gave him a couple of bucks, to which he added the last $2 he had, and he walked over, told the guy how much he liked his music, and handed him the money. The man was a bit shocked, but thanked my son & shook his hand....Did a mom good I tell ya!

I've been to a couple of auctions, but never an estate sale. What is an estate sale, how do you find them & do you bid or just buy what is offered? Do you make an appointment or just show up.

I'd like to go to one, but have no idea how to go about finding one.

mcjane...Estate sales are typically listed in the newspapers, and found under estate or garage sales. Usually run by a service, and most of the time, INSIDE the house. Check your local listings for time / place. Around here you have to line up like an hour before the sale & take a number to get in. But it can be fun, especially if you look for the off beat stuff that lots of the dealers just run right past...

Rancher, I think that wrestling ring that makes sounds is called the "Nitro Arena." I have one NIB that didn't sell on ebay through two listings, but it sure looks like a fun thing.

I got some great books at sales this weekend, including several Cherry Ames nurse hardbacks with djs in great shape. Some cute Lefton pieces for a quarter apiece. A huge lot of 50s & 60s sewing patterns for $2 for the whole box. A really nice color wheel spinner thing to shine on aluminum or white Christmas trees for $1, and some gorgeous tin-lined copper molds for $1. Lots more stuff, too! It was a good weekend.

ashlandtrader...Yeah, that one's been around before & is quite beyond his years in caring and maturity....

psyllie...Yup, I do believe that's what it's called....Noisey thing, but the kids are enjoyin' it..and we got that + a bunch o' figures for $5...not too shabby....BTW, those color lights do REAL WELL around the beginning of Nov. when folks are starting to think about putting up the old tree...I did real well last year with two of the alum. trees!...

well, I didn't do yard sales this weekend, but I did hit our major dept store, as they are having a massive clearance sale, and since I sell clothes I thought I might look around. Boy was I in for a treat! I bought several items in the toddler dept. The total sounded low, but I thought I had miscalculated. As it turns out, I paid 1 cent for a *NWT* *MINTY* Nautica T-Shirt. I think I'll do pretty good on that one!

To be perfectly honest, I have always found yardsales to be a waste of time. I always try to get there early, but it seems like some other dealer has already beat me to the good stuff!

I got fed up with dealing with low priced items and graduated up to the higher priced real collectibles and antiques where the big money is. Don't waste your time duking it out with "Early Bird Edna" or "Polly Pick-Em-Clean".

The good stuff is found in more unconventional sources such as self-storage auctions and liquidation sales. You'll have to invest a bit more money, but the pay off is WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY!

"Early Bird Edna" and "Polly Pick-Em-Clean" are some people I know very well. You just have to get smarter and braver than those two. Whoops! I forgot. That's what they call me and a good girlfriend when we hit the sales!
