In many eastern countries ladies must keep their hair covered when in public.
I bought a bag that is sold to tourists that holds one of these head coverings. It is very pretty navy blue with gold stitching. When not in use it rolls up and is carried in the bag.
I would like to list it but I am not familiar with the correct name of this item.
Any help here?

bunnicula,
babushka is a good guess, but I think that is only in Russia.
I will post a picture as soon as I get one taken
there is a tag in the bag and I think it is from India.

The writing on the label is Greek. The designs of the scarf are clearly Greek with the traditional Greek Key design and embellished with pictures of the Parthenon.

The Islamic traditional clothing link won't be of any help. The only question that remains is the gold colored thread. Is it metallic? If so do you have a way to test it to determine if it has any real gold content?

I have no idea if it is metallic or not, it feels like regular thread to me.
The bag is fully lined and has a drawstring closure. Maybe it is a shawl? the ends of the skarf are raw, not finished.
I want to list it but am not sure what to call it or what to list it under.

Can't see the entire thing, but could it possibly be a Hijab, which is a Muslim face veil?

Guess one has to be an AW "regular" to be believed... I will state, again, the writing on the label is quite definitely Greek. The pictures on the scarf are of the Acropolis with the Parthenon at the top. It is embellished with the very popular and widely used Greek Key pattern. It is a Greek scarf, very probably a tourist item, picked up by someone at the many tourist shops surrounding the Acropolis in the Plaka area. Greece has no tradition of covering the face or hair as in Islamic countries. It is simply a lovely scarf and a bag in which to carry it in. Perhaps I will be believed this time?

Probably from that large community of Greek Muslims?

antiquefreak, there is no reason to be so defensive
no one here said they did not believe you.
many of us recognize the greek key pattern and the ancient structures of greece.
I was merely asking for advice and answering questions as I received them.
