When so many of these threads are full of the problems of ebay selling, I just wanted to send along this email I got from a customer the other day. I had sent her an extra book with her order that I wasn't having any luck selling, and thought she might enjoy. Here's the response I got, which made me think that perhaps somewhere in this vase cyber world of selling, we're going more good by selling "junk" than we realize... (And, to make this story more meaningful, the extra book I included originally belonged to a little girl who had been killed in an accident.) I do believe God works in mysterious ways...
Hello,
I just wanted to let you know I have received the book and The
extra book you sent. I wanted to tell you that my neice latched on to the
extra book when I opened the package and said mine, mine. I wanted to
let you know that you have made alittle girl very happy. You have also made
all my neices and nephews happy with reading time. You have sent a blessing
that I can never repay and wish that all your blessing come true. Do I owe
you anymore for the second book? You have giving the biggest smile to
my youngest neice that I have seen in years. She has been very quite and
distance since her mother, (my baby sister) was killed in a car wreck . This
has just made her day, since her mother use to sit and read different books
to her at bedtime. Thank you ever so much for feeling her little heart with
such joy and memories of happier times. I can never pay you enough for such
joy you have brought to her little life. I pray that you will be blessed 10
times over for the blessing you have given us. God Bless and will love to
her from you again and do more business in the future. Thank you is all I
can say. I do love the old stories and so does my
mom. So you have blessed us in many ways by placing such a wonderful book up
for auction. Thank you again, XXXX

joycel: I ended up buying several children's books at an auction last week that I was just going to donate to our local church thrift store. If you would be so kind as to get me in contact with your buyer, I would rather send them to her. Please contact me at [email protected] and we will figure out a way to work this out.

The majority of my customers and buyers have been great!

One that comes to mind is an older gentleman who has purchased from Ebay with me, and then went to my website and has purchased two more times. Since I deal mainly in dog and pet related gift items, he purchased three figurines that looked like his dogs from the past. He says that he is so happy that he can look at them, and remember the good times that he had with them. His last dog died about two months ago, and he can't have anymore pets, and he takes great joy in having the figurines now.

There are great people and stories out there, not just the bad. It is just hard to see them sometimes.

So nice to see good things posted

And they say that Ebay has lost that sense of community! True stories and our own experiences prove that is not at all the case.

This thread has been inspirational!

Just reinforces there are no coincidences. I love when this happens. When I taught CCD I had them make old fashioned valentines for the shut-ins of the parish (these are 7th graders cutting out hearts etc.) and they were all nice with sweet messages. I got to the last one and the boy had added at the end YO CANADA!!! I felt it was silly and asked why he did it (almost said ruined it) and he just felt like it, he said he says that a lot and really didn't know why he added. When I got home to address envelopes (always at random) to go with the cards, I almost threw it away or was going to send it to a particular person I knew well who would not be offended. At the last minute I said no let God decide who should get it and mixed it in. I received the only thank you from an elderly woman who said the part she loved the best was the reference to Canada. It made her cry to remember all the trips she and her husband took there each year and felt it was from him. Maybe it was. There isn't much I try to fix or control since. There is a reason for everything if we just accept what happens.

I too would like to send them some of my books if you can share her address. Maybe you should ask her first if she would like some more and if it is OK. Thank you for sharing such a goose bump story. Anyone watch John Edwards? I've also had these things come to me and am never wrong. I believe the little girl decided who needed her book.

Thank you for your outpouring of generosity. I e-mailed the woman to ask her permission to release her address, and will let you know as soon as I hear back. Wouldn't it be neat though to have many packages of good books arrive in her mailbox?

What a wonderful story. God does work in mysterious ways. I'll think of your letter when I ship other items out. Thank you for thinking of this post.

I have had great customers as well. I really enjoy dealing with first time customers. I get quite a few "thank you" e-mails when they receive their merchandise. This makes selling on e-bay a pleasant experience.

I am not much for desiderata but I will say this: There are few joys greater than selling an old book on a whim that you rescued from a junk pile, and receive a warm and appreciative letter saying how long they had been searching for that rare book either from childhood, or even about an ancestor.

Books are something special. And should always be...

eBay hasn't lost its sense of community, they just delete any thread that might offend the sensitivities of the atheist flamers!! LOL

larrkpoodle,

The above stories confirm everything that is shown on John Edward's show. Do you know about Sylvia Browne. She has a few books about the subject.

When a buyer takes the time to sent a note it makes my day, heck the weekend. I try not to dwell with the negatives as it is very counter productive as well as draining. I just say "Next" and get on with the day.

Yes I've read her also. But when it happens to you personally that they contact you there is not the slightest doubt. Everything in John Edwards' books has happened to me, just more random and uncontrolled. I need to list less and meditate more!! LOL Actually I think he is correct in that we need to notice all the little signs of ESP as they happen to become more sensitive to the more important ones.

I just had a check returned after 5 weeks! but when I contacted her, she immediately made it good...my faith in people is still intact! I usually mail out immediately and never a problem. Except for the deadbeats who should not have bid in the first place, people are just super. Have kept in touch with many friends here and other countries.

For me, the good customers have far outweighed the nutcases (though the nutcases usually only make it to the board).

Had one lady buy a pair of older bookends. When she got them, she wrote to tell me her late father had a set just like them but they had been lost over time. She'd been searching for a pair & she was so thrilled to find them & thanked me because it gave her such great memories of her father & childhood.

A gentleman purchased several old early readers from me. He briefly mentioned his sons & daughter were having trouble learning to read & were way behind their classmates which really was hammering their confidence.

I searched around & found a few more & stuck them in the package for free. He emailed me a few weeks later to say the kids had jumped on the books like thirsty sailors & were rapidly catching up w/their classmates. He emailed me a few months later to say they were now ahead of their classmates. He was especially thrilled because I found a couple of books I thought the daughter would like & she was reading everything she could get her hands on.

I guess every now & then, even us sellers manage to do something right.

Reminds me when I sent my extra pieces for a particular artistic hobby which had not sold to a young woman just starting out, who I had gotten to know as I sorted through my mother's supplies. She was so thrilled just to have my mother's things she mailed the cost of the postage back to me!

Another woman from another country, when I wrote to ask about her country and how it was next on my list to visit, sent me a gift type book on the country and said she would take off work to show us around! Many stories bring tears when I realize how many good people are in the world and without the internet we would not even realize the common bond we have of trying to make life better. More stories!!
