Hi I had a question on UPS signature required. We ship out about 7-8 thousand dollars, that’s actually the shipping cost that we incur monthly and to date if you can believe this. I’m not sure if its really a problem or not, but we have never required “signature required “even on larger purchases. We are just wondering if you folks would suggest we use signature required on purchases over a certain amount such as 200 dollars or 500 dollars. Or if we should continue not using it assuming that in the one case were UPS left the 400 dollar item on the door step and apparently the customer didn’t get it. It appears that ups is going to pay the claim, by the way were not sure if UPS would normally pay a claim like this were signature required wasn’t used. We think they will, but were not sure. Signature required is around a dollar or two extra per shipment. It appears that even in a way were almost self insuring since its probably the first time in a year that we had a ups driver deliver a package that was stolen of significant value that we did not use signature required. So maybe in essence maybe were self-insuring, just curious what your thoughts might be on this interesting question. Thank you for any input you may have towards this subject.
I can tell you from personal experience, I HATE signature required deliveries. That means that AFTER work I have to drive 30 minutes each way to go pick up a package. I live in a decent neighborhood though, and things have never disappeared from my porch.

As I understand it, there are two kinds of signatures, the one where you can sign the slip, and the one where you have to sign it live.
The former is not so bad, I just sign the slip and get it the next day. And just like cin131 not only would I have to drive a long way, but I would have to take off work to do so, since the depot is only open M-F 9-5. I would not be a happy camper.
But on the other hand, if I lived in a seedy neighborhood or if I was ordering a $1000 widget, I might want that service.
Might be a nice idea to notify your buyers that you are using signature required.
