This one kind of threw me for a loop.

Found a GameBoy Color game that my kids wanted for their birthday at a fairly reasonable price including the unreal $6 shipping charge (but I look at the whole total I pay and decided the kids really wanted it so ahead I went).

Game arrives from a company called "Bestprices.com" its the wrong game. Its the Black and White version of this game not the color one advertised in the auction.

I called Bestprices.com to find out that my seller orders games from them and has them shipped out to his customers, basically never having the item in his hand. So, even though I have the wrong game (that he apparently orderend incorrectly, hopefully) I can't even return it to this company to get the right one, I have to deal with the seller. Well that would be fine, except the seller is not answering my emails. Hopfully this will resolve itself in a few days. I'm trying not to panic.

Is this the way a lot of sellers do business? Offering merchandise that they, themselves don't really have in hand?

Should I have to pay for the return postage to the seller (if he decides to answer me)? The auction says nothing regarding returns.

Lots of sellers use drop shippers for some of there items.

This is not new or unusual really but there ad should indicate the items are dropshipped or some such wording because dropshipping is like any other mail order house you must allow 7 to 14 days for delivery.

This Error shouldn't be a problem But then im not your sellers.
They should be able to order you the right Item and resell the one you send back with out a problem.

many sellers dont have room to warehouse the amount of Items they sell weekly and monthly, as well as time to package and ship ever item remember there are seller on ebay listing and selling many thousands of items weekly.

not everyone is selling collectables and antiques found locally some are buying and selling wholesale from companies that dropship.

This is even cost effective or should be for both buyer and seller as most dropshippers dont charge shipping its all included as part of the cost for merchantdise they order..

Many sellers employ distributors who wrap and ship the merchandise directly. This is very common in alot of small businesses. However, I personally do not do that as I'm sure a good majority of eBay sellers do not as well. The seller is ultimately responsible for replacing the merchandise and getting you what you bid/won. Good Luck.

Well its been 3 days since I received the shipment and no word from the seller. It would be nice if he would at least drop me a note to reassure my fragile mind.

I guess I really have no problem with the drop ship method as long as it works and I don't have to go through a major hassle to get the correct merchandise.

Hi, did you get the item on Ebay, If so, Why don't you look up his contact info, and give him a call, or it might make him at least email you back, knowing you have his info. might try it. Good Luck

That's really awful! I would never put something up for sale that I didn't have in hand. So many things can happen and I think it's really wrong to offer something for sale that you don't actually have possession of.

That would be the only way to be certain (outside of some catastrophic occurrence at your house or place of business destroying your mdse) that you could sell it.

I would also hate buying something from someone that did business that way. I'd hope that sellers doing biz this way would put that right up front on the auction so buyers can decide if they want to deal with that.

Most sellers of wholesale merchantdise work this way.

It really is a good way for a seller to grow there online business and not as many thing can go wrong as you think infact there is more of a chance of problems happening when you warehouse your inventory at home.

You Items are packageed and shipped directly at the ware house no pet kids food or drink to foul you product, bigest problem you might face is haveing to write a buyer and inform then the item is temporarily out of stock if you have an item listed before the notice from the warehouse gets out to you.

its unfortunate that the posters seller hasnt got in contact with then as of yet but then again this is a big holiday week and weekend...

dman - I didn't realize that so many sellers did it that way. My error. But I would be absolutely horrified if I took someone's money with them expecting me to ship the mdse and I had to tell them it was not available after all. (Of course that's just me!) If I make a purchase from someone I believe that THEY have the mdse and will get it to me upon receipt of payment unless I'm told differently up front. If they don't have it but I've paid them for it, I don't know, it just doesn't sound right.

Of course, I'm just talking about buying stuff on ebay or the like.

Just wanted to add that you might also give the seller a few more days to reply since it is a holiday weekend and many people will be taking vacations.
Hope it all works out for you.

That is why it is ebays policy that sellers let the buy know there item will be dropshipped.

some try to skirt the issue with big ole ads some where in small type it will say allow 7 to 14 day shipping from our warehouse.

But genrally buyers cant tell the difference since the item arrives with the sellers home address as the one that sent it..

Go to one of his active auctions and use the function, ask the seller a question. That should get the attention of the seller then you can tell him your problem. Good Luck

May I ask which title it was? Older gameboy games work on game boy color machines. If the game was simply advertised as being compatible with gameboy color, that does not necessarily mean it will be 'in color' when you play it. Nintendo does make updated versions of many of the games that run only on Gameboy Color in Color..so if you ordered one of these and you got a older black and white version, you were gyped. Hope this makes sense..I have been celebrating the holiday a little early with just a few Margaret!a's

Bestprices.com does not appear to be a wholesaler or distributor, just a site that may sell things (movies, electronics, etc) at a good price. This would be like me auctioning a product listed on www.wal-mart.com on eBay and having it shipped to the customer once I received payment, not a traditional dropshipping arrangement. Having found some sites that sell desirable merchandise cheap I've considered it myself, but am very cautious about how well that would be received by the end customer especially if their order included an invoice although I find that many sites will not include one if the billing address is different than the shipping address.

The title was Harvest Moon for gameboy. They do make two versions of this game. The original Gameboy game (which is what I recieved) and the one for the Gameboy Color. Packaging is similar but the color version says for GAME BOY COLOR in large letters on the side. We've rented the color version from our local blockbuster so we do know its really a color game. Actually we purchased the game to play in the new Game Boy Advance that they got for their birhdays on Thursday. The gameboy advance will play the gameboy color games also.

What really frosts my cookies is that I was in Target last night and found the same game on sale/reduced to $19.99 (what I paid for the game + the $6 shipping). In order to not dissapoint my kids any further I may just go to Target and buy it for them there.

Don't know who asked me but I paid via Paypal, funded from my bank account.

The Paypal chargeback is on my list of options.

I'm going to give the seller a week to get back to me, if I don't get any reply to my emails by Friday, I guess I can try that route.

Can I do a chargeback in this instance? I thought paypal didn't get involved with buyer/seller disputes? Of course this is a one way dispute at this time

drop shipment works well with items which are mass produced in quantity such as pc,scnner, printers or items which are consistent in quality and apperance such as rolex, machine made figurines etc
it would cost too much for seller to carry all such inventory .

If you paid through paypal with your credit card you can call your CC company and file charge back .

if you paid with money that was in your paypal account you have to file the claim with paypal.

if you bid was over the $250 deductable you also must file for ebay insurance.

Thanks for the fast reply. The money was a debit from my linked bank account. So, am I assuming wrong that I have to go through Paypal?

So, then back to my original question, will Paypal allow me to do a chargeback in this type of situation? Seller still has not answered my emails. Saying a quick prayer that he is away for the weekend.

i believe paypal always said they do not get involved in content issue-like in your case it is a different color or style.
also as long as you sit on the item, you have the good, you have to pay.
if it were a small amount,i will just keep the item or try to sell it on ebay,if he is not answering your email and it is a drop shipment,he may not want to pay for return postage and have to file for ebay fee and resell it again as he may not be able to return it himself.
you mentioned you bot it because the price is so attractive,so he is probably making little out of this deal.

Ok, well its now been a good 6 days since I first wrote the seller and no contact. Guess I'll head over to Paypal and try to lodge a complaint. Will be interesting to see if anything comes of it. Maybe at the least it'll get my seller's attention.
