I have several sets of Jarts/Lawn Darts I would like to sell and I was wondering where to go to find the rules for selling them on ebay.

I'm pretty sure those were recalled, and as such, are not allowed.

If eBay had a top 10 "hit list" for forbidden items (and for all I know, they might)... Lawn Darts would be near the top. Don't waste your time.

They were banned by the CPSC for a reason. They are dangerous.

I see other people selling these all the time. If I add that these are for collectors only and not to be played with by children at all, will they let the auction run.

I just had a Jart auction cancelled by eBay. Prior to listing I did a search and found a number (10-12) listed and more than 25 on completed auction search. I listed mine 5 days ago and this afternoon the bidding was up to over $70 and it was to close tonight. I checked around 3:30 and could not find my listing. A few minutes later I received this;
PI NOTICE: eBay Auction Cancelled By Community Watch

Dear XXXXX,

We want to tell you how much we appreciate your membership and participation on eBay; however, we regret to inform you that your auction:

XXXXXXXXX Vintage Jarts In Original Box

has been ended. All fees associated with this auction have been credited to your account.

Although you may not have been aware, lawn darts have been recalled by the CPSC; therefore, we do not allow these items to be listed on eBay. Please note that no part of the lawn dart game may be sold on the site, including the box, rings, fins, or tips, as we are unable to verify contents of such auctions.

You may contact the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at 800/638-2772, or: http://www.cpsc.gov/ for more information.

**IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please be aware future incidents of this nature can lead to the suspension of your account. If you have any question regarding whether or not an item is allowed to be sold on eBay, please write to us at [email protected] before listing the item. Multiple violations for listing prohibited items can result in the suspension of your account.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Regards,

Xxxx eBay ([email protected])
eBay Inc

There are still 2 active auctions going at the present however several others were also Cancelled this afternoon.

For further information do a Google search on lawn darts. There's lots!

ragmop, Did your auction include a statement that these are for collectors only and not for children to play with? From the auctions that I have checked out that were allowed to run, they have this in their description.I was wondering if this makes a difference?

Plain and simple, it is a violation of Federal Law to sell Lawn Jarts. It is not illegal to own them, just to sell them.

eBay does not allow recalled items, either, but they rely on people reporting violations.

Most sellers sell them as a "first bid wins" or BIN.

Stating that they "are for collectors only" does not make it okay. You are still selling a banned item.

Yes, it did! here are the last two lines of the listing; Buyer takes all responsibly as to safety of Jarts. Sold as a collectors Item only these are NOT TO BE USED, as they are very dangerous!!

Note the section of their letter that states,"Please note that no part of the lawn dart game may be sold on the site, including the box, rings, fins, or tips, as we are unable to verify contents of such auctions." So you can't even sell the empty box?

This is why I came to the threads to find out why some auctions are allowed to run and others are cancelled ? The only difference I could see is that some added for "collecting purposes only" they were allowed to run. Thank's for the information.....I guess I won't be selling them on ebay...

Why did some get pulled and others didn't?

Because people didn't report them all, obviously.

eBay doesn't police their own site. They rely on users to do it. Many times it is sellers trying to get other sellers items pulled so theirs sell better.

Jarts were recalled for a good reason. As one poster here said, they are dangerous. Their use, especially by children, resulted in some horrible injuries (punctured eyes & skulls) and deaths -- a Jart dropping on you from 20 or 30 feet up is no different than a spear, it has the effect of a weapon.

Sellers who think that they are "for collectors only" or that by adding that it obsolves the seller from any responsibility, are plainly in the wrong in my opinion.

A few bucks isn't worth it. Don't sell it, or pander to those who would use it, just destroy the stupid thing.

First of all, let me state that I do not want to buy these items. OK, would someone please
post a short little description and perhaps a
picture of this item so that I know
what it is. I do not have these and am not going to sell them. However, I am curious
to know more about this toy that caused
so many problems for innocent children.

Lawn jarts were a popular toy back in the day. You had 2 rings, and 2 darts each. You would set up the rings about 10-20 feet apart from each other, and one person would throw to one ring, and the other person would throw to the other.

Apparently some children were either careless or did not see these projectiles-of-death coming at them, and got hit in the head with the metal tip. Some died.

They have since been banned by the US Government, and have been replaced with plastic tipped ones.

Shame on anyone who has either sold or is planning to sell these death projectiles.

I sold a set about a year ago on Yahoo and got about $65 for the set. That was before Yahoo started charging for auctions so I don't know if the rules there have changed.

Oh please, give me a break. Yes, they are dangerous. So are a pair of scissors if you run with them. I wonder how many children have been injured, or perhaps even killed, by a pair of long, sharp scissors? Shame on anyone selling liquor, or cigarettes...they could kill a person!

IMHO, it is not the job of the government to prevent stupid people from hurting themselves. And, IMHO, any parent that lets their kids play with these toys is stupid.

The original poster just wanted some info about the darts, and their sale on Ebay. Just leave it at that, and leave the preaching out of it.

Yes, but liquor, cigarettes, and scissors are legal, lawn jarts are not. They are a banned item.

So I am not allowed to give my opinion, but you are? In that case, my rebuttal will be:

Wow, I didn't realize what those were or that they were even banned. My parents have 2 sets of those in their cellar from many moons ago! They haven't been touched in many years (none of us kids have lived at home for more than 10 years) and even at that they weren't used for a long time before that. Thanks for posting that picture!

I just checked and I see 6 auctions running right now. I guess the name of that game is put on a auction and hope to sell the jarts sets at a BIN before you get shut down.
I grew up in a large family with 8 kids and lots of neighbors that came over all of the time. We played with these set a lot and I don't ever remember anyone ever getting hurt. What I do remember is (heads up) many bad throws and everyone get out of the way. So I do see how kids can get hurt with these.
But I also remember my sister getting both of her eyes blacked out when someone threw the bat in a baseball game. These were never banned.
What I don't understand is why Yahoo allows these to be sold and ebay dosen't.

With the customer support over at Yahoo, it wouldn't suprise me if they are a banned item, but they just don't do anything about it.

IMHO, it is not the job of the government to prevent stupid people from hurting themselves.

Uh, we have a president that is considered to be dim-witted, and a Govermental Hierachy that is rumored to have paid $400 for a hammer and $35 for a paperclip. Techniclly, the stupid have not only inflitrated the goverment, they have become quite "smart."

And, IMHO, any parent that lets their kids play with these toys is stupid.

Quote George Carlin:

The Kid who Swallows Marbles doesn't grow up to have kids of their own.

And one of my personal dogmas:

PRACTICE PASSIVE EUGENICS.

Any person who buys the Jarts is taking a risk, and hopefully places him or herself here:

10+ years of being a PC-minded idiot will cause such outburts...

I don't mind some PC, but when it comes to Passive Eugenics, I have to support Evolution and Darwin than save a few lives that has emphsis over safety than "thinning the herd."

As for our Litigious Society...eBay should take the risk and let those damn Lawn Jarts go on!! They can not only claim a "we're only a Venue" Status, they can also point to darwin as a defense!!

I mean, they have money to hemorrage around, right? Unlike Penn Central...
