From CNN:
"Anti-virus researchers were fighting a new Internet attacker Tuesday similar to the "Code Red" worm that infected hundreds of thousands of computers several months ago.
The worm, known as "W32.Nimda," had affected "thousands, possibly tens of thousands" of targets by midday Tuesday, according to Vincent Gullotto, head virus fighter at McAfee.com, a software company."
"Most home users, including those running Windows 95, 98 or ME, are not affected. "

McAfee now says it WILL infect win 9X machines. I just downloaded the dat file from McAfee. Check the below link, this one looks NASTY the way it's setup to spread.

I was jut notified by my Microsoft rep, who said that this is a NASTY virus that can be activated WITHOUT opening an attachment.
Simply "highlighting" it in your inbox WITHOUT even clicking on it can activate it.

I own a web hosting company and have seen this virus trying to get into all of my webservers. The microsoft patch that was used for the code red worm is supposed to work against this. It has not gotten in so far.
this is a live stats server and you can see how it is trying to penetrate. This might make sense to some of you. It is trying to get into a website now that has frontpage extensions. There is nothing I can do but watch for now. Rebooting the servers worked to clear code red but not this.

Sorry in advance if this is an incredibly stupid question. I read about the Microsoft patch for this virus and it said for versions of IE 5.01 and higher. I have version 5.00. So do I do anything?
I checked my list of viruses that Norton is supposed to be protecting me from and this one is listed. So am I safe?
