Just read this piece by Jim Cramer on the yahoo finance boards and thought it would be of interest to ebay sellers...

The newspapers already tried to unseat eBay. It was called AuctionUniverse.com and was a very nice site but need improvement. So they dinked around with it and turned it into Auctions.Com. They turned it into a straight, sell-everything-under-the-sun, no personality auction site. And it nosedived. Which was sad because I really did like AU as a place to sell.

I remember when AuctionUniverse went live, before it was purchased by the LA Times or whoever purchased it. It was for collectibles, and I actually did quite well there! They had a nice system that gave you reports of all your auctions, how much they were going for (sum total) and average increase above starting bid) - Yeah, I am sure I can get that somewhere from a service I probably would have to pay for with Ebay, but as I said, I actually sold things pretty well there. Then, Ebay took off, they were purchased and never were the same.
