I have started selling clothing and I'm wondering how do you measure sleeves? Do you measure from under the arm or the top of the shoulder? Thanks! Barbara
I have been selling clothing on ebay for 4 years now and I measure from the top of the shoulder (at the seam) to the hem.
Before I started taking sleeve measurements, my buyers would email and ask me for the measurement from the shoulder seam to the hem for the sleeve measurement, and that's how I've done it since.

I have listed a number of coats, jackets and wedding gowns in the past 6 months.
Measuring is always tricky, but what they want is the bust and waist measurements; sleeve length is tricky because sometimes the sleeve is on the diagonal and you have to give an underarm seam to hem measurement. They always seem to want to know what the back measurement is from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, too.
What I do to save time is to do all the measurements possible and when the questions come in I just use the same note, copy and paste.

I also measure from the underarm seam, and I'm sure to mention if the garment has a dropped shoulder or if the sleeve is meant to be short (i.e., a 3/4 sleeve, or one that you push up). I have somewhat short arms for my height, and I always want to know this information. Lots of my customers have just the opposite problem (long arms), and they ask me if I don't mention sleeve length and style.

Hi,
I always measure the sleeve from the underarm to the hem. The reason I do it that way is because that is the measurement that was most requested before I started including sleeve measurements in my auctions.
I do get a very occasional request for a measurement from the shoulder to the hem and I am happy to measure it for them, but for the most part, this seems to work. Your mileage may vary.

this is interesting. i also measure from shoulder seam to hem. it's the measurement i prefer when buying, because jackets, blouses, dresses can vary in cut - some tighter to the underarm than others. i just want to know if the sleeve will be long enough on me. i've never been asked for the underarm to sleeve hem measurement.

Hi all - I'm a clothing seller and have never included this measurement. I guess it just never occurred to me (and no one has ever asked). But (off-hand) I think underarm to hem would be best because 1) there's not always a shoulder seam on top and 2) sometimes they're dropped sleeves or whatever. Just my two-cents.
