I am in sympathy with those that have lost so much these past few weeks.
However many say that we must go on with our lives as best we can.
Auctions have been up, down, up, down.....Well now another incident to play possible havoc with our auctions again! I have been wondering if I should even try to launch new auctions tonight.
Do you think anyone will even be interested in auctions, or watching TV? This goes for the outlook at least for several days as well.
What do you all feel about this latest outlook on auctions?

I only sell a few items per week normally but have listed my items as were my original plans. Because of today's events I don't expect they will be viewed much over the next few days but they are seven day auctions and I'm assuming that by next Sunday, most people will be returning to a more normal routine...
On the plus side for me, if fewer people list, the more likely that my auctions will do better as there will be less competition...
With all due respect to those who have suffered greatly over the past month and for those who may have other more pressing concerns due to the current political environment. My life proceeds, I still intend to finish my education this year, I have applied for a job in NYC and if I'm offered the job I will most likely go. I can't put my life on hold based on fear of the unknown...

For whatever reason, the week of Sept 11, my auctions did better than they had in months.
You can choose to list or not to list but if you don't list, do you have a back-up plan as far as paying bills goes? (assuming that ebay is you primary income source)
I think in spite of the war that is going on it is very important that we keep doing things we have normally done. So many people have lost ther jobs as a direct result of the tragedy, especially in NY. ie. restraunt workers, airline employees etc...
This country, understandably, just does not feel like getting back to "normal" but if we do not the economy is going to sink even further and that means we are letting terrorism win. jmho
Personally I have 20 auctions ready to go and I am going to start them tonight.
good luck!

My Auctions Did Really good dureing the problem of 9/11 .
Not sure if this was because numbers dropped on ebay or what in any case 99% were all bids from USA bidders.
the bombing over there will end by there day break and news will grow old again..
many people will more then likely be sticking close to home other then work and Tomorrow is a holiday many will not be working should be a great day for the internet business..

I have about 100+ auctions ready to list tonight. I think they may not get many views in the next day or two, but people will be looking for diversions, and ebay is a good diversion

glassperson. Just to clarify my meltdown comments. The national carriers for Switzerland and Belgium and a small UK regional carrier, are under your Chapter 11. Swissair was unable to pay its fuel bills and aircraft were seized in London to pay for them. There are more to come! My UK press tells me that US airlines are laying off 89,000 employees.

Just had 50 auctions close, 70% sell-through.
Had outstanding success with some vintage bedspreads, with one doubling its reserve of $100, and the others either meeting or exceeding reserves.
8 vintage calendars brought $180, a newer clock went crazy, stopping at $200+ (reserve was $50), and a neat old lamp exceeded reserve of $150.
No-sales included a hunting accessory that almost made reserve, a floor radio that really bombed out with just one bid, and a musical instrument that almost made it.
I just finished loading this week's batch of 60 and am still guardedly optimistic.

wowwow85. Is there a site I can bet against your 90 day predictions. My bets are on under 30 days. Check out World airlines insurance premiums. Edited to add that I am very happy with my present bids. This is not my trading name.

But. . . . they postponed the Emmys tonight. Will they put them on next Sunday night, just as all our auctions are closing? Anybody know?

I've been listing less on eBay lately, but I put on the auction I'd planned (all one of them!) for 10 days.
I think much of the downer that people have been feeling is because of the perceived inactivity of US leaders/military. Now that we've fired back, so to speak, confidence will be restored somewhat. JMO of course.

Hey GreetingfromUk -
I still plan on coming across the pond to visit y'all either Thanksgiving or Boxing Day. With all the cut-backs I can only (lol) bring a small carry-on size suitcase of $$$, this time, but I fell I must do my part to prop-up the Stoke economy (least at Barleston). So I can save on car fare can you meet me at the airport? (-;
Oh, BTW, do you know when the next anntiques fair is at Sandown or Newark??

roadsmith - regarding the Emmys ceremony, there is no rescheduled date at this point. It may get postponed, but the producers haven't ruled out a complete cancellation for this year. Keep an eye on the news for the announcement.

When I first heard the news yesterday ~ I ran to the TV.............I watched for about an hour and then decided that I was not going to do what I did on 9/11 (which was not work.......just watch Tv for over a week).
I turned off the TV and got back to work.......long story short.........I posted 100 auctions last night.
