Another payment for tuition on how to use on-line auctions. Just lost something I wanted via sniping (I think - high bid went in at the very last second). Now I know the difference between proxy bidding and sniping. Also didn't bid my maximum on the proxy in the first place. I don't know why, an intellectual interlude perhaps. So, the lesson is learned, the whining is done. Where do I get a sniping program?

Hi anothertreasure,

There was something I wanted to win today but I was going to be gone so I used Vrane for the first time and it worked great.

http://www.vrane.com/

Click on "Free tools" and then "Public snipe box".

No need for a sniping program -- just bid at the last minute -- works everytime for me.

Oh yeah! It's so much more satisfying to do the sniping yourself! That's half the fun...

Put a low bid in to mark your spot then wait till 5 mins before close and drop your max on the item - sometimes it works well.

If you can be there at the end, IMO this is the best clock on the market.

Hi
Thanks all. First I'll find out a little more about sniping - it really doesn't sound fair (voice from kindergarten . 'Til then I'll probably do what I do at real auctions when I'm seeking stock for resale -- set my maximum, bid up to it no matter what and either win or lose. Tough for a person with a competitive nature. If I really need it and have to have it for myself there's no telling what I'd do. Oh, couldn't call for a similar item, it was a unique lot.
