I ship all of my large boxes FedEx Ground. It is cheaper and I have never had any problems. Plus you can email the buyer the tracking number and they can keep track of it. Also it is insured up to $100 for no extra charge.

Go to the FedEx site and re-enter your weight etc with slightly smaller dinensions. See if you can get a size that will get just under the dimensional weight breakpoint. If you can shrink the package to that point and still safely pack the item, you've got it made. You may have to use more reinforceing cardboard to safely pack it, but don't worry about the extra weight. It's the size that runs into the big bucks when they apply the dimensional weight. I've had this happen twice this month already. In both instances I was able to reduce the shipping charges by $12.00 by shortening the box 1".
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

greyhound and amtrak do not deliver to your home and their pickup sites may no be convenient for your buyer.

With that size package UPS or Fed-Ex ground is your only reasonable option. You would have to go alot smaller with both companies to get the dimensional weight down enough to make a difference.

Greyhound does not deliver to your home or pick up, but they are very economical and easy to use. I would use them for this package.
