The auction count charts show Ebay went from a little over 4 million to 8 million listings with free listing day.
Does anyone know if there is a way to tell how many are actual listings versus listings which show up in two categories?

What auction count did you find that??
4 million seems very low since for at least the last 6 months that I have been watching Ebay had been averaging 5.8 million to around 6 million at any given moment.

You need twice as many listings because half of them don't sell Or is it because they get only half as much as they did a year or two ago.

I don't know how to post a link but here is where they keep count.
You can check it by day and you will see that on the 19th it was down to 4 million something. It was high the first of December but started falling about the 15th.
Then after free listing day it spiked up to 8 million and now is back to just under 7.

to post a url simply use a
after the link with no spaces.
note:
use [ ]'s instead of < >'s
