Howdy, I'm a seasoned buyer on Ebay, but new to selling. Recently I just sold an item and the buyer has been nothing but trouble. He keeps telling me that he's about to send payment, and that I'll get it by x day. X day comes and then he wants to send it later. He claimed that he'd have the payment to me by X day last week, then when that day rolled around, he asked me for my mailing address!!! I'm sick of this guy. My auction states that he has 10 days to pay, no exceptions. Ten days was up yesterday, and still no payment. Even if I do wait for this guy and ship his item, I'm thinking that won't be the last I hear from him. He'll probably want to return it for a refund after he gets it. I want to relist this item and leave neg feedback for him, but don't want a retaliatory neg feedback to tarnish my perfect feedback file. What can I do to this friggin' JERK?!!!
Why don't you put your foot down and tell him that he has one week to get the money to you. Or simply tell him it is too late to send money and go from there.
Edited to add: Having a neg is not all that bad. Don't forget you can leave a response to the neg he leaves too. Having a neg IMO is better than the headache later on if you do ship and have more problesm. I think that it would be better to just dump him and go from there.

IF HE DOES NEG YOU,,,,,,,NEG HIM RIGHT BACK AND THEN GO IMMEDIATELY TO FOLLOW UP COMMENTS AND SPELL IT OUT AGAIN SO BUYERS CAN REALLY SEE WHAT YOU SAID.
DO NOT!!!!!! GET EMOTIONAL! BRIEF AND TO THE POINT. YOU ARE LIMIED AS TO HOW MUCH YOU CAN SAY. RIGHT TO THE POINT. NO RAMBLING.

I say follow your gut instinct. If you feel this person is going to be a problem -give the negative feedback, file for your money back from Ebay and move on. I usually have a gut feeling about a sale and I have rarely been wrong. Trust yourself. Don't worry about the negative feedback - leave a general business-like comment that anyone reading your feeback will understand.

BELIEVE WHO EVER YOU CHOOSE. YOU NEG HIM FIRST! HE NEGS YOU RIGHT BACK. TIT FOR TAT. HOW MANY FEEDS DOES THE "BUYER" HAVE? WHERE DID THIS GUY GO? WE ARE ALL TALKING TO OURSELVES. HAHAHHAHAHAH, THAT'S LIFE,,,,,,,,
BY THE WAY,,ORIGINAL POSTER,,,,,IF YOU CLICK THE ID OF THE PERSON REPLYING YOU WILL SEE HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE THEY HAVE ON THIS BOARD. THAT YOU CAN TRUST.

If you have a policy of pay within ten days, why are you still bothering with this guy? Just neg him, file for a FVF refund and be done with it.

No sense letting people jerk you around...once your waiting period is up, FVF them and be done with it. Out of my four deadbeats (see the other thread), I actually managed to get one to pay. I've pretty much given up hope on the other three, so once the 10 days are up, they're getting FVF'ed.

Wow. Deadbeat bidders are a hot topic here! Thanks to everyone who replied with some input. I really just wanted to hear from others how they would deal with this guy. From all of your replies, I've gotten a pretty good idea. The ITEM (Jokes for JACKSWEBB!)I'm selling is pretty unique so I'd rather not identify myself by describing it here. I think this guy got a little Ebay crazy and over-extended himself financially. I looked at his feedback, and he won an expensive auction just days earlier. He's got low feedback, under 20, so he's probably new at this. Tough luck though, can't pay? screw you, don't bid then. I wouldn't have. The good news is that I think that if I relist this I'll get even more for it. Cheers everyone.

I agree with Jacksweb, but here's how you do it:
Jump through the ebay hoops and eventually file FVF but don't post FB yet. Hopefully this bidder is enough of an idiot or will get suspended so he won't post feedback yet.
Put a sticky note on your computer dated 89 days past EOA as a reminder of the last day you can post FB for this idiot.
When the 89th day rolls around, neg his @ss but be prepared to take one in return.
When you neg this guy, use all caps, and say something like "STRUNG ME ALONG BUT NEVER PAID, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME...." Use all the available space on the line so as to draw as much attention as possible to the neg. You also might want to use other words like "RUDE, IMMATURE, INCONSIDERATE, DEMANDING, UNREASONABLE" if they apply. Basically you can say whatever you want because ebay won't lift a finger to remove any FB regardless of how bad it was.
If he negs you, reply to it. Watch his FB also, he might reply and then you can reply also.
Don't take it personally. The situation stinks but without some kind of feedback, you might be screwing future sellers. Do your part.

Well, I'd skip the "rude, inconsiderate" part...just do a neg and keep it factual. You'd be surprised at how many people check feedback and follow-ups. A seller that leaves those kinds of negs isn't looked on too well. They sound a little out of control and not like somebody you'd like to deal with.

I knew I'd get a rise off of someone here at the goodship lollipop.
Sonsie, how can you say that some liar stringing you along isn't rude or inconsiderate? Just be factual. If they were, then say it. Don't sugar coat it and screw the rest of us by not giving us a clear impression of what went on.
I don't think a lot of people check what type of feedback a seller LEAVES, mostly just what they RECEIVE.
Think about it.
ps Oh yeah, don't forget to write your auction # down for the 89 day FB snipe. You won't be able to get it off your 'my ebay' page after 30 days. You'll be hunting through your old email or your complete ebay invoice.

I really wonder how many people waste their time to post feedback on the 89th day?...I would never get a thing done on Ebay, I'd have so many sticky notes stuck all over the place I wouldn't be able to see my computer screen

If he's a buyer & not a seller then don't even bother with FB. Most sellers never check or don't have time to check every buyers FB. And even if they did they would still sell to them. I could care less what a buyers FB is like.
There is a big difference if your a seller, then I care. Why would you risk neg FB on a NPB. You don't owe other sellers a thing, so take care of yourself & protect your FB.
Just file for FVF & let eBay take care of him. Three strikes & he's out.

Sure, those actions are rude and inconsiderate. But you only have something like 80 characters to spend on the neg, and you ought to spend them usefully, not on a mini-rant about a rude buyer.
You might want to say something like, "buyer failed to respond to four notices, promised payment, never sent, waited 30 days" or whatever. That's about as clear as you can make it, and you don't sound like a nutcase in the process.
I for one do check on seller feedback, especially when I see they have left a lot of negs. I don't normally deal in categories where negs are common, and when I'm looking at an auction where a seller does leave a lot, I want to know what they sound like and if they are for cause or just because he or she was having a bad day.
If you've been around AW long enough, surely you've read the threads where a seller begins to sound like a total, foaming-at-the-mouth nutcase when you read the negs they've left. Would you want to deal with that person, and hope you wouldn't be on the receiving end of such a feedback? I know I wouldn't.
And yes, as a seller I've left my share of negs for deadbeats. I don't even use that word...I just state the facts.

The waiting for 89 days and 23 hours is exactly what to do. But it does not matter. 15 minutes latter the buyer has a new name and bidding just like before. You, as the seller on the other hand, get 2000 worth of sales damaged by the idiot. WE should be able to approve bidders before the deal is officially considered completed.
